Alright I know this topic has been discussed over and over again, but I am having a real hard time trying to find a lift kit that I like. I know that I want to push 35in tires, I dont want to do a spacer lift and I do not like the OME lift. Downey Offroad has a 3 1/2in lift that they claim will push 35's with the usual trimming, but I have never seen any feedback on this site for people using it. I have looked at the RC and ProComp lifts but it seems like even though the lift is 6in you still have the drop box in the front for the IFS so is clearance really improved that much? Other than that my buddy builds CORE trucks and said he would put together a custom lift for me if i paid for parts, even with his help parts will still cost a pretty penny. What is the best route to go? Is is really worth paying all this money to upgrade IFS? Or is it better to wait and try to do a SAS? I have heard SAS goes for about 10k installed and a custom suspension is going to be around 3-5k installed at my buddies shop.

Talk to Jason DeMello at DeMello offroad. He is just up the road from you in Corona. I would bet he recommends the Icon suspension.

www.toyteclifts.com They have bilsteins with eibach springs wrapped around them. We installed a set and they are supper nice!!

how much travel will each of these kits give me and what size tires will I be able to push. I do a little bit of everything offroad, sand dirt snow I want the best all around lift.

you and i are in a similar boat, what i've been thinking about (call me crazy... if you must) is doing your typical 3" suspension lift with whatever coilovers you can find and supplementing it with a 1" body lift. i've seen a few 4rnrs of our generation with body lifts so i think adapting them to fit an FJc might be possible. in theory this would find 4-ish inches of lift and raising the body (wheelwells etc.) away from the tires more ought to supply enough room for 35 at full compression. lock to lock? i'm not sure...

that may be an answer im not sure if 4 inches will clear 35s or not, ima talktomy buddy that builds the CORE trucks today and see what he thinks.

Hey Joebob

Use to be stationed at Miramar when it was a NAS..

I was in the same boat and I was searching all around for something for a long time for something. Since money was an issue and I really wanted to get up I jumped on a Group buy for a the Rough Country. I know you said that you did not want to go spacers but for $250 shipped I jumped on it. Its now three inches in the air and I have 33" as well. I am very happy but I will upgrade to coil over when the money is there. But line to look at that people like are ICON, SAS, ToyTech, and more that I cannot remember. It really depends on what kind of wheeling you do. Try to give some of these people a call and tell them what kind of wheeler you are and they will tell you the best product that they sell.

But I am happy that I am up now and I don't scrape.. Good luck and post up when you get something:popcorn:

Oh yeah I hope the auto shop is still there.. They will have all the tools you need to get the lift done:cheers:

ya i frequent the auto shop all the time...i will do some calling around since i dont generally stick to just one type of wheeling...i know that i want to push 35s though. Talked to my buddy that wants to build a set up for my truck and he said he wouldnt put Icon on any truck...he said he wasnt happy with the performance...

Really No Icon.. What does he like.. Since he build trucks I am interested in what he thinks.. I have been looking into the SAW system.. Does he know anything about this set up??? Thanks

Also 35's is around the time you might want to think about re-gearing. those can be a lot of rubber to get rolling from a stop. Especially when you on a steep incline. But it sounds like you have someone with a lot of good knowledge..

He said no to Icon because they break under stress and you pay for the name because the performance is bad...I havent heard of the SAW system before what is that? He likes total Chaos, hes been running total chaos for 5 years now and never had a problem with it. That is the brand he favors, but he also does custom work so, he said it was up to me, also i had asked him since Total Chaos was a log travel, i was under the impression that the trunk had to be totally ripped apart, but he said no they have a way to fit the suspension all under the body...i will ask him about the SAW system though.

Talked to my buddy he said Sway-a-way is nick named stay-a-way apparently their bodies rust easily and the price isnt worth it, he said as far as coil overs are concerned if you are able to build custom shock mounts then go with FOA coil overs, they dont make a direct bolt on kit for our trucks but with sum minor mods they can be put on here is the link F-O-A OFF-ROAD Shock Absorbers this is probably the direction that I will be going, he was saying that most of the direct bolt on kits arent worth the money but that was just his 2 cents.

I have heard that a 3 inch will clear 35s but i dont want to go with spacers or OME so im looking at coil over systems...

I love my Sway Away Rev Tech set up...

Wow I have not heard that before about SWA.. I guess he is right about bolt on systems but Since he has a shop and i do not I am thinking that I will have to go with bolt on...
Its always great to find out info from someone who is building trucks..

Thanks

Boss
