I hope this question is'nt to redundant but I am currently running BFG AT's 33x9.50. I really want to go with a more aggressive tire and at least a 33x 10.50. I was talking with ERymer (Eric) this week and he was telling me that the 10.50's would rub (bummer). What would be the most economical way to achieve some lift to get these to clear. I'm pretty sure that my 40 was at one time SOA, the PO before me switched it back trying to get it close to stock, so I dont think I would have to do to much to switch it back. Is this a very hard process? and would someone with limited experience be able to do it correctly? Also my quarter panels are diamond plated so I wouldnt be apposed to trimming them a little to get the back to fit. Im not to crazy about the idea of using a body lift but I guess I could use one to get some cheap lift. Any ideas or info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Stephen

Cut the rear if you don't care and run some flares. I ran 33x10.5's for a long time on an uncut 40 and they didn't rub. If you do lift it while it is S/U then go
4" because you will hate yourself later if you go 2". Don't know what you want to do with the truck but if you wheel it then go 4" and you will have the option to go to a 35x12.5 in the future. Some of our guys are running the 4" Hell Creek srpings www.hellcreeksuspensions.com and they love them. Tell em' that the guys at CottonLand Cruisers sent you. They donate to the Southern Cruiser Crawl every year. Great guys! Just my .02

Later,

What about extended shackle. if you just want like an inch to clear a little tire rub.

Yeah if I go with a lift it probably would be the 4" Hell Creek, I've heard alot of good things about it, I just dont have it in my budget right now. So if I go with about a 1.5" shackle lift then trim and flare the quarters do you think I would have any problems clearing them at the front as well as the back?

the rear is not where I had my issues. it's the front. with that being said I think tire selection has alot to do with it. I have rubbing issues on the trail with my 32 x 10.50 TSL radials. I would be afraid that if you ran the 33x10.50 tsl it would be even worse. I ran the 33x9.50's with no rubbing whatsoever. I could be wrong, but I think BFG's run a little on the small side. The cheapest and quicket solution might be a shackle lift, but I personally like a 4 in lift with 33x12.50's. but I wouldn't run anything wider than a 10.50 without power steering. it's just to hard.

What's the appeal of a 10.5 over a 9.5? Just wondering... You can get 33x9.5 tsls, JP runs a 35x9.5 i believe. Just seems like if you can't afford to do a lift the right, wait until you've saved enough money to do what you want and don't have to compromise.

I'd like to get a little wider foot print, I know its not that big of a difference but every litle bit will help. As bad as this sounds I also like the way the bigger tire looks. I really kind of like the ride height that I have right now so I'm really kind of looking for just a little lift to get the bigger tread in without any rubbing.

if you have to have a 10.50 you might want to go with the 32's and replace the shackles. I think that would keep it about where you want it. or else drop down to a 31 x 10.50. I had some 31x10.50 that were on a set of wheels I picked up and they looked pretty good. I bought the 32's because they were a great deal. If you like the height and don't want to lift it up and I would really consider the lift shackles. they will only give you about 1.5 inches of lift and give you a little more tire clearance.

My next tires are going to be the 34x9.5 TSLs .
Knarly and will still fit under an uncut rear.
My current 33x9.5s fit up in there on a stuff with no problem.
Wider tires will rub the steering as well. Lots of guys run a spacer on the front to deal with this issue.
