Hello Guys/Gals

I am looking at buying an FJ in the next couple months or as late as a year out. I have been doing some research on lifts for the FJ. What is everyone's opinions on the different lift kits available for them? What size lift would you recommend to accommodate 35" tires or can I fit bigger? I am thinking 2.5" but???

Also what are some of the pros and cons to the FJ?

Scott

Lowest you can go and still fit the tire you want to run. I went through OME 885/886 up front, ended up with ICON coilovers. I'd do ICON again without hesitation, second choice would be OME 885/895...

We are running about 3 inches of lift and 35's on our shop FJ. We could probably lower the FJ a half inch and still be fine. You will need to body mount chop and flatten the pinch weld in the back of the front inner fender to fit the 35's. Even after doing this and extending the bumpstops in the rear we still have a little bit of contact at full flex somewhere in the rear. But it does not scrub bad enough to worry about.

Scott there are a lot of variables in your question but yes you can do 35's and 2.5 lift. Now if you are planing on aftermarket bumpers and other equipment it may/will change on what lift you will need. I run fox and love it. What I did was a lot of reading along with riding around with different people with different set ups to get an idea what I liked. I ended up with 33's and a 3inch lift. 35's required lot more money to do it correct. I hope that helps.

I have a ToyTec Ultimate 3" lift on my truck ... I run 33s ... I have re-geared my truck to 4.56 ... you'd likely consider re-gearing with 35's ... lots of lift options ... plenty of info on the boards re lift options and the pros/cons of each lift ... my suggestion, do the research, and whatever you decide, do it right ... its cheaper in the long run ...

I've had my truck since new ... never get tired of driving it ... I don't wheel it hard ... the only thing I don't like about it is the blind spots, but you get used to them and can mitigate them by properly setting the mirrors ...

the 2010 and newer Fj's have more horsepower and a slightly bigger rear differential than the 07-09s ... you might want to factor that into your considerations ...

welcome to Mud ...

Thank you for all the advice. I am looking forward to owning an FJ. I was looking at an 80 but the wife says I have to get something newer. I really like the JK but I have always lived outside the box... FJ Cruiser it is.

Nothing yet. I really want an cement grey one but I cant afford a 2013. I might look around for a black one.

When I first started out MTBCOACH's build is what I went off of right away as I thought he new his stuff pretty well. I got the oem lift just like the one he had. It wasn't the normal lift as I had to order it in parts. I was happy with it and just started reading on different material and never stayed with his build. I upgraded last year to 2.5 icons extended travel or long travel in the front and since icons didn't make a 2.5 for the rear I went with rad flo. I still have the ome heavy springs in the rear. Both are rebuildable and work just great. I had to get better shocks as the wife was a little fed up with how some of these guys could just go flying around these gravel roads and I was much slower. Ome is a great lift but icons are awesome. When I will have to rebuild my shocks I can put back on the ome lift until I get them back from the factory and they also serve as trail spares just in case. Turns out MTBcoach is a pretty smart guy. I liked the look he had with the swampers on and fender flares ripped off. I almost took mine off but my wife said no it was to new. I still have them on. Lol
