Lifetime Knucke Wiper Seal Fitment for LJ78 Prado

Hello Everyone,

As per the title, If someone has information/experience about installing the Longfield lifetime wiper seals on LJ78 Front Axles, please share.

I have the pickup model seals and I tried to install them a few days ago. I ended up with a 1/2 inch Gap where the cut edge is supposed to meet. to the best of my knowledge and abilities the seal was settled in the knuckle recess. I have attached pictures.

I will let the experts comment.

You may find these seals are to fit the pre 1990 Cruisers as they had smaller swivel / CVs.than
1990 onwards Cruisers, which are ( Prado ) slightly larger.
Longfield's add says they are for FJ40-FJ60 which are pre 1990

I've had the Longfield wipers combined with the Marlin Crawler heavy duty axle seals installed on my 1989 BJ74 for almost 2 years now and everything remains clean and dry. I wont ever rebuild a set of knuckles again without them.

The Longfield wipers are actually a little tricky to install as the fit is very tight.

Hello Guys,
None of the lifetime seals for FJ40, 60 and pickup will fit the LJ78 front axle.
Longfield shipped me an 80 series seal kit as well.
I had to cut a 1 1/2" inch piece from the seal to get it to wrap around the ball properly.
Will post pics later.
So the conclusion is, we do not yet have a lifetime wiper seal that will fit the LJ78 (70) series axles of that era.

I think early and late 80 series may be different swival wiper seals . and if I remember my kzj 78 swival parts were also the same as post 1990 hzj 75 too.

Not the same size.

The High Pinion 70 series is a smaller knuckle ball than the 80 series.

Just get a 70 series high pinion knuckle kit... it's that simple. We're sold out at the moment, but an order is coming in shortly.

If you have to cut a 1 1/2" off the FJ-80 you must have the same as the pickups an FJ-40 & 60 knuckles Because the FJ-70 run the same birfs. If you cut down the FJ-80 seal it will not work. As far as i know there are only 2 sizes.
