Howdy folks,

With the first 78 series models becoming importable to the US this last year I am trying to get and idea of how many LHD markets ever got the HDJ78 or VDJ78 (I’m aware the VDJ only started production in 2006, so still a ways to go for its import green day). My research online of ones for sale leads to me to believe it was incredibly rare for the EU to get either of these models if at all. Anyone have some insight on this? I know HZJ75s and even HZJ78s were sold into many markets long after the introduction of the beefier engine models, hell I think a few places such as Mongolia still sell brand new HZJ78s to this very day. So I wonder if that fact shows that Mr. Toyota had little market incentives to bring the beefier diesel versions anywhere besides Australia and maybe the Middle East, but I’m of the impression that the Middle East really only got petrol FZJ versions and not the diesel ones due to how cheap gasoline is over there. Maybe central and South America got them? But I fear that opens a whole other can of worms with the rust conditions for those markets.

Just trying to figure out if my dream of owning a 78 series with a turbocharged diesel is going to be possible out of the box with LHD or if it will require an engine swap from a different model.

All HDJ7x are Australian, so RHD
All VDJ76 and VDJ77 are Australian, so RHD.
There are left handed VDJ78 station wagons and VDJ79 single and double cab pickups. They started production in 2017 so by 2042 you'll be good.

None of the above ever officially came into the EU.

No, that is not entirely correct. Also VDJ76 were produced as GCC spec for the middle east. I know because I bought one.

Sorry, you are correct. From 2017 the VDJ76, 78 and 79 came in GCC spec. Thanks for the correction.
