So I had the alternator out of my 1998 GS400 the other day, and I compared it to the alternator I took out of our 1999 LC. They look identical. Rear plugs are the same shape.

The GS alternator is 100-amp. The LC alternator is 80-amp if I remember right.

The only thing I don’t know is the pinout. If the terminals are the same, then what’s stopping us from using the Lexus 1UZ alternators in the LC?

The 3UZ alternators may interchange as well.

I was thinking about this the other day as well. But seems there is little to be gained by using one. New OEM for any uz engine is discontinued or costs $900+ from overseas. Only rebuilt or new low-quality ones are available, which is the same story on our alternators.

The pin pattern is stamped on the outside of the factory housings. I put a 2007 130amp into my 99lc last month. In my case I had to switch the connectors due to the tundra being different.

Here’s what the pin drawing on my 99 looks like.

Well I can confirm this doesn’t work. The positive wire post on the LC alternator is a smaller diameter than the GS one. I looked at taking it apart to swap that little bit but it seems to be integrated with a whole bunch of other stuff in there.

Found this out when my GS alternator farted out and I thought “hey no problem, I’ve got that spare LC alternator kicking around.” NOPE.
