Sounds good Juan. I've never been but I have heard some of the OHV areas have been closed and it is mostly ATV riders. There is another place close to there that was pretty popular called Crackers Neck but I've heard about closings there too. It's close, we should check it out and see for ourselves!!

Another place I've wanted to check out that's not too far from there is:

And of course there is always Tellico!

Awesome, cool pics. Looks like it could be tough if it is wet.

Count me in!!

How does 130 miles of trails and 5000 acre wheeling park sound???

Camping with showers in the NC border with TN....how is up???

Callalantee is a decent place to go wheeling, I just went 2 weeks ago. There are some good trails there. The bad thing is that they are not marked well, and the maps are not very good. The trails change constantly there due to the logging going on. I would not recommend going unless someone in your group knows the trails.

The campground is about 30 minutes from Boone, it's easy to get to. The trails start at the campground, the same guy owns the trails and campground. The campground isn't all that nice, but it serves its purpose. It costs $11 a day to ride, and the camping varies from $10 to $15 a night. I would recommend staying at one of the hotels in Mt.City which is only about 5 miles from the campground/trails.

There are plenty of trails there for vehicles, not just ATVs. There ae some challenging spots, and some easier trails. Some of the better trails are Welder, Little Tellico, Big Tellico, Armor All, and Pull Cable. The new "trail" called Easy Out is really just a small trail off of Welder that joins back with Welder - it's only about 100 yards long.

We had a good time at Callalantee. In my opinion, it's better than the Uwharrie, but not nearly as good as Tellico or Harlan.

Good review, thanks for the info. Have you been to Coal Creek OHV?

Yes, I went to Coal Creek, or Windrock as a lot of people call it, last summer. There are some good trails there. We were only there for 2 days, and it rained a lot while we were there, so we didn't get to ride as much as we wanted to.

There are definetly some challenging obstacles at Windrock. Rattle Rock is a great trail. It's not very long, but you could spend the better part of your day on it. It is all private land just like Callalantee. I heard there is something like 72,000 acres maybe? Anyway, the down side to Windrock is it costs $15 per day per person to ride there. That's right, per person! And you sign a waiver before you're allowed on the trails.

It's right outside of Oak Ridge, TN, which isn't far from Knoxville. There is a campground there also, it's a mile or two from the trails. The campground is a little nicer than the one in Callalantee, but it could use some work also. Again, I would recommend getting a hotel room in Oak Ridge if you go to Windrock.

Here are a few pics from the waterfall on Welder I took in Callalantee the other week:
