Hey folks
well, as you know from my previous couple posts, I have been looking at a gorgeous Canadian 1987 BJ70 with a 3B.
I bit the bullet today...proudly so.
First, a little history about me and my previous rigs.
My first 4x4 was a Isuzu Trooper. A brand new one actually. I bought it, well, because I needed something to slow me down. I had a couple Volks Corrado's previously, and I drove like a nutcase. So, my now ex forced me, or should I say, gave me an ultimatum, something bigger and slower. So, I bought the Trooper. Great truck, but, ha, I drove faster. It was a pretty powerful truck.
Again, another ultimatum. Ok, ok, how's this, a Pinzgauer. Let's say, she was happy. I loved that truck, it took me everwhere I needed to go off-roading. The thing was an absolute beast. On the road, however, well, I'm sure many of you know, it was a turtle.
A couple of 4Runners along the way. Oh, we were broken up at this point...good grief. Then the 250GD G-wagon last year. Loved how it looked, hated how it drove, it was an absolute tractor. It just wasn't meant to be.
Next up, and that brings us to the present, a 1987 Toyota BJ70 Cruiser.
The gentleman who sold it to me needed to downsize, so, he let me know it may be on the market. I pretty much told him I was in from the get-go.
This particular gentleman is an old-timer, and he loves taking cares of his vehicles. He has, or should I say had, 2 Landcruisers and a G-wagon. One is his puppy, he's had it for 35 years. The other one, which is the one I bought is his second one, and was the 2nd owner. I'm now the 3rd owner.
He pretty much set a price for it, which I think is very fair. But, kind of sucked for me because I'm in the midst of starting a new business, and it would have helped me along. Ahhh, a few more weeks or a couple months I can get that business off the ground.
I went to check it out last week, and I was in awe. Of course of just how sexy, yet rugged (can I say that?), but also in the condition it was in. Before I went to check it out, I have been reading and lingering around here like a creep for a few weeks. Reading up on them. I pretty much got the gist that it was also a tractor. Ewwwww
But, the test drive, in my opinion, proved to me that tractor she no is. Not in the least. I was able to get to a 100km/h with ease, unlike the G-wagon. I was able to accelerate past cars even on steep hills. Good enough for me. Sold!!!
Also, I've never really said this before about a truck, but it drives like butter. It's just so easy. So easy to get in and out of gears, accelerate, break, steer, just everything. I love it. It's a match made in heaven.
Ok, I'm getting a little carried away there. But F*&k it, I love it. I don't care what anyone else says.
Pros
- Dude and dudettes, the shock seats. WtF. They're awesome. I never drove a vehicle that had them. They're just amazing.
- Acceleration, pffft, tractor my tuckus.
- Field of view. Amazing. There are no blind spots, unlike, ummmm, should I say it again, the G.
- Shifting, like butter.
- Did I mention the seats
- Chick magnet (got a few looks).
- The list can just go on and on. So, I digress.
Negatives

I'm not sure how it is for you folk when you drive your Cruisers, but, I had a smile from ear to ear while driving it back home. Jees, listen to me, I sound like I'm on ecstasy or something. But really.....
oh yeah, here are some pics of my new baby. (that sounds creepy...it's just a truck dude).
