Was plannig on starting in the Durango and going up. We have a home in Breckenridge and need to be there on the 6th. Was thinking of hitting the big bridge"gorge" and was wondering about other camping sites. Have a 4,5,6,11,13,and a 22 y/o girlfriend....... Someting with water right next to the camp site would be nice with great views. Any suggestions would help.

Ouray is nice. 4j+1+1 campground is walking distance from the hotsprings. Most of the unpaved "drives" are still burried in snow. If Cottonwood pass is open, that pretty. Buena Vista, Salida, area is all nice also. Mesa Verde is worth a visit. A few of us Vail local's usually wheel one night a week (often Wednedays) with kids. Shoot me a pm. Father's day our club does an anual run up Spring creek near Georgetown. Not sure what else our club has happening while your here but have a look at the Rising Sun website also. Bring Warm Clothes. Higher elevations, temps are in the 30-40's at night. I got snowed on Wedneday evening.

Wow, your ride's gonna be PACKED! Have a safe and enjoyable trip, and don't forget to visit SLEE for more goodies!

Great Sand Dunes NP has a nice campground and is great for the kids. The Alligator farm near Alamosa is fun too. The advantage there is the low elevations will be warm. Anywhere in the mountains you can't go wrong.

X2 on the Sand Dunes. Did it last year and heading back over the 4th of July. Nice traditional campground and killer back country camping off Medano Pass Rd. The dunes are fun, some water falls in the area, and Medano Pass Rd is a nice sandy trail to test your Cruiser. Nothing tough, but kinda fun in the sand, a bunch of stream crossings and nice views. We camped in the primitive sites about 5 miles into Medano Pass and were one of 4 groups in 25 sites! Nice and peaceful!

thanks to all, looks like we are heading to the dunes. It looks perfect, and I have never been there. Spoke with a ranger and we r set. We will be in Breckenridge the 6-18th if anyone is getting together.

North of Durango is Silverton. Great rides and you can camp 1mile west of Silverton on the river, or north of town on the river. All free. Probably be some people from Moab too.

anyone know of any mild trails somewhat near I-70 or I-25? i'm going to be heading out to denver area for a wedding at the end of the month and was hoping to get a little wheeling/camping in while i'm out there. taking out our 02 100 series which is pretty much stock, so i dunno about anything rated at more than a 4/10 for now. i think i'll take off our runningboards beforehand and try to hit up slee for some sliders while i'm out there.

Wow. what a trip

We ended up at Medano pass road. Camped for 4 days, next to a river wayyyyy up the road. Up in a canyon. We drove past the regular camp sites and felt sorry for them to be stuck down there. It was a 40 minute off pavement drive to our site. Had 9 water crossings just to get to the site. Thanks to all for the advice. And we will be in Breck until the 18th if anyone is getting together just PM me
