Check for power at the coil, both while cranking and when the ignition is on. There are two different circuits that control that. You should have 12V while cranking and about 7V with the key on ON.
The points ground the coil circuit. If you disconnect the negative wire off the coil and check continuity to ground you should have continuity when the points are closed and not when they are open.
If you have power and a good ground, then your coil might be bad. You can check it with an ohm meter.
