Thanks for the advice. I heard about this earlier.
The point is: I'm in Germany. Any component of your running gear (and most other component like wheels, bumpers, lights, glassing) requires authority homologation here and is subject to biannual authority inspection. OME is the only brand that has approved aftermarket springs for our rig here (that's why OME anyways).
Tempering with the springs renders the homologation invalid and voids your insurance and license to operate the vehicle here.

I have never seen the term 'homologation' being used outside of anything automobile related. The term makes me think of old classics such as the Boss429, Super Bird, Z28, etc.

🤣 the German term is 'Bauartzulassung'. And I actually used leo.org. And likely there are better translations.
And yes, it works like in rally cars: The manufacturer / importer needs to provide a number of samples and a lot of engeneering papers, authorities test those (and destroys them ) and, if satisfied, they grant the homologation. It is this infamous KBA No you might have heard of.
Alternative is to do it with EU bodies and those grant an E-No. The process is expensive, so not many after market parts get certified.
 
I am in a bit of grumble mood upon registering challenges here in Victoria, but I bet Germany would take the prize in difficulty and paperwork.
 
Here in San Antonio, there is no smog. I have even had inspections where I drive up and they don't even touch the car and once insurance is verified, they just had me passing paperwork to get registration.

yes, I guess we are lucky for smog too, so far. But, I heard that all commercial gardeners have to swap lawn mowers, chainsaws and hedgers to battery ones by law in California. Imagine all those perfectly functioning gas run tools being phased out, is that less pollution?!
I've had petrol chainsaws last 30 years, cannot imagine an electric chainsaw lasting 30 years.

In my neck of the woods, a yearly inspection is mandatory to have your registration renewed.

From what I remember, they check emissions, brakes, suspension and other things. However, the inspectors -who claim to be experienced engineers- cannot tell AC condensation water from engine oil, and list the former as a defect. They cannot tell TREs from Pitman arms and blame them for "suspension imbalances," whatever that means.

I have dealt with "imbalances" and "defective Pitman arms" as a reason for failed inspections since day one. How can a new car have "imbalances" is beyond me.

Interestingly, bull bars are deemed as a serious defect by these people, but spacers and exhaust resonators are not. I think they do not have any idea of what they do.

The process is nerve wracking. The shop helps me to deal with it, thankfully.

reminds me of monty python had an excellent section in 'the meaning of life', the doctors insisted on a big expensive machine which made a 'biing ' sound to impress, the most important thing deemed necessary.

Yes bureaucracy loves official red tape which achieves nothing but a services job adding to the gross domestic product.

At this point I’m surprised we haven’t had any ex-navy guys chime in about their time on ships. 😁
 
I went out and checked my RHD HZJ73 and can confirm that it also leans a little to the port. I hadn't really noticed it until reading this thread!

It has 4x4 Engineering shakles and aftermarket shocks but I'm not sure if the springs are stock or not.
