Leaking Hoses

Hi All,

Was leaking coolant so I replaced the two main hoses on the radiator on my 87 HJ60 since it was some aftermarket ones that were old and I thought would solve the problem with OEM hoses. Still had coolant leaking though, and today finally saw which hose it was. Anyone know where I can get the hoses I have circled?

Should I get OEM or aftermarket? And if aftermarket, specific formed ones or generic and just cut to fit? Anyone know the size?

Thanks,
John

I can't see any "formed bends" in those hoses.

So just go to an industrial/marine hose specialist (or even your ordinary automotive specialist shop) with a sample of that old hose and obtain whatever length of replacement hose you need (in order to cut two new ones).

Oh ... And it always pays to fit new hose clamps too. I like stainless ones. But try to avoid the ones where all the band is "open-ladder" (which tends to bite into the hose rather than sliding on its circumference to properly "strangle" it).

You're probably right. Thanks Lost Marbles.

Does anyone know off hand what inner diameter size the hoses are for a 87 HJ60?

I can bring the old ones in but with them being orange, not sure if the previous owner macguyvered it.

Thanks,
John

Factory they are moulded hoses. Those are someones attempt to fix it in the past.

Now that you mention it .... It does look like that front hose is quite badly collapsed-inwards from being made to bend too sharply so getting the correct Toyota hoses might well be your best way forward..

Anyone know the toyota part numbers by any chance?

Hulsty - Mine is LHD from Canada. I didnt get a chance to look for the exact hose but since it is AU, would all the hoses listed be for RHD?

If for some reason you can't get factory replacement hoses, you can use bulk hose from a parts store but at the places where you need to bend it I've used a product called Unicoil. It's a stainless spring that goes around the outside of the hose and allows it to be bent without collapsing or kinking. A standard 5/8 heater hose should fit.

I would just use normal heater hose. I like the green stripe version from Gates at Napa. Remember to make it long enough to avoid tight bends. And then you need to not only clamp the ends but possibly the hose in the middle with a support clamp (adel clamp). To avoid chafing.

You'll pay a fortune for a molded toyota hose and it is not better. The new rubbers in heater hoses that you can buy bulk will be better. Also the Toyota stock might be manufactured 20 years ago. Rubber ages on the shelf.

When I put a turbo on my truck, all of my heater hoses coming from the waterpump to the firewall had to be replaced and re-routed. None of my old hard line tubes could be used. SO i just used bulk supply. 70k kms later and properly supported with clamps they are still going strong. I had two sizes of heater hose. And one thick on on the waterpump for a few inches. So three sizes. I can't remember them all . That was 5 years ago lol.

No difference between LHD and RHD, firewall heater tap is in the same spot.
