first question. this could be a stupid question, but should my rear leaf springs have a noticeable positive arch and not a flat almost negative arch? (i have a 2001 taco xtra cab 4x4) would new shocks help this or should i put new leaves in?

second question. are there any threads on changing upper ball joints on the tacomas. the rubber grease seal is shot on mine. is that something you can replace, or is it all 1 unit. i am getting ready to put new shocks on all the way around and figured i might as well do the ball joints too.

i'm a simple to moderate wrencher. just haven't done a lot. any input or tips is appreciated.

How many miles on your truck? Shell on the bed?

I would think an 01 Tacoma should have a slight positive arch on the leaves. Anything close to flat or negative arch is a sign of a weakening/aging leaf pack. New shocks might help with ride quality, but won't change your springs. A new leaf pack would be ideal, but you could also opt for an AAL, or even have your springs re-arched to try and get back some of the ride height and flex.

As far as ball joint replacement goes, I'd check the Early Tacoma Tech section on TTORA - I'm sure there's info there.

the truck has 137,000 on it.

has anyone used the replacement springs from hell creek suspensions?

thanks for the tips.
