Hey Jim, do those add-a-leafs get installed at the very bottom of the spring pack or between the bottom leaf and the rest of the spring pack?

HEY TOM,
i believe they became the second or third leaf from the top.

Not Steve, but I have some insight. I would try to ride in the truck before they are removed. My experience has been that the HFS springs ride really great, but they arn't stiff enough to hold up to wheeling or camping. I have the newer "heavier duty" springs on the rear now. The first springs CCOT sent me fell almost 2" in the first 2 weeks on my truck. THe heavy duty ones on there now have fallen about 1.5" in 4 months. I have only carried a load 3 or 4 times in that time period. I have talked to several folks with the HFS kits that have saging in the back with zero to no "heavy duty" type use. I think CCOT defines "heavy duty" differently than most cruiserheads.

Greg

Thanks for posting this up. I think I would have flipped after saving a few bucks on these over the dakars.

That's cool Jim, I was just curious. I also realized after posting that I kinda hijacked the thread, not exactly good forum edicate.

I don't see how add-a-leaf on a spring-under-axle is going to help the spring sag that much. Also, I hear they give a pretty harsh ride.

If a new set of springs are too expensive, a less expensive option is to have a spring shop re-arch the original springs and add an additional (long) leaf. This wont give you the performance of a new set of quality springs, but it would be far better than add-a-leaf and a big improvement over the sagged stock springs. If you also use new polyurethane bushings and install greasable shackles you will notice a big improvement in ride quality.

If you do the removal and installation yourself you can keep the expense to a minimim.

HTH
