Stihl? Anything else worth considering?

I do not own any Stihl products. But if money is not an object. I personally would go with them. German built and great quality.

How it's made did a show on their plant that makes the chainsaws that made me a fan. I have owned Mac, Homelite, Poulan (sp) and others. After seeing that show, I will by a used Stihl when my last two are worn out.

I've owned several brands of power equipment: Craftsman, Poulan, Homelite, Jonsered, and just bought a Stihl blower. There is no comparision, the Stihl is the best build quality. My old Jonsered chainsaw is comparable in quality, but they are a little tougher to find. Husqvarna used to also be good, but they sold out, they're on the shelves in Homey Depot and Lowes now. I believe they do sell a better line thru dealers though.

Craftsman power stuff SUCKS. I still have my old (3 years) blower, a trimmer, and a mower. Total POS. I'm giving my blower to a buddy since I've upgraded, I'll sell off the trimmer soon on CL. Good riddance. I'll only buy Stihl now, but some of that is also because of the support they provide to the local Timbersport team here on campus, very good company. They are made in VA now, BTW.

I bought the BG-56 CE model blower with the Easy2Start feature. Very nice, well worth the additional cost. My fiance has a bad shoulder and can't pull start most engines, but this is no problem for her.

I have the BG85 (blower vac combo) and love it. Would buy another on in a heartbeat.

I've had an echo blower for 15 years, always ran great....till my father in law ran it with straight gas.

I also have the pb-200. Ran great for 2 yrs. then the fuel lines rotted off. Currently getting fixed since parts can only be bought by an echo dealer.

The BG55 is on sale for something like $ 139.95

I bought two of these. The first one was not worth a s***. Ran just ONE tank of straight gas through it and the cylinder galled  It still runs, though. a little hard starting;)

The second one runs great, starts easy blows great. My :princess: is in charge of gassing all my stuff now:o

my father-in-law put gas in yer blower too?

The PB200 is a great blower for left handed people.

The fuel lines are not special at all. They are a common size that is used through out the hand held outdoor power equipment industry.

They discontinued the PB200e about 3 or 4 years ago. It would not meet the 2005 EPA emission standards.

I can install a short block in the old one for you. Send it to me.

D'Animal, any advice on the BG85D vs BG86? need to pick one up tomorrow,

My POS homelite crapped out today, I have always needed something stronger for the yearly leaf clean up anyway.

From the specs I don't get why stihl has two of almost the same blower,
same displacement (27.2cc),
the 86 has just slightly more flow (459 vs 447 CFM),
velocity (154 vs 150 MPH),
heavier (9.7 vs 9.3 pounds)
little more $ (229 vs 239 )
and little more fuel (440 vs 400 CC),
but they are very close to being the same machine in all categories on paper,
biggest difference I can find is the 86 is suppose to be environmentally friendly with lower emissions,

any scoop on how the two compare in reality? one better made than the other?

The BG86 is AV mounted and put out a little more air than the BG85. The BG85 is discontinued and the inventory at the dealership is all there is. What you are seeing is jsut an overlap of inventory.

My wife ran the prototype of the BG86 for about 6 months and loved it. I turned the prototype back in 2007. She is happy using her BG85. I told her I would buy her a BG86 when she wore out the BG85. She uses it about 30 minutes a week so it will be awhile.

I see, my homelite made my hands numb from vibration, pins and needles type feel, some AV mounting would be nice and well worth $10 more,

Thank you

Got about 10 min with it this morning before the rain sent me back in. smooth, powerful even move thick drifts of wet leaves and quiet (for a leaf blower) really like the AV, really smooth.

I used/use an Echo handheld blower for leaves for about three years with no problems.
Last year I went into full on offensive leaf mode with a Husqvarna 170BT backpack .
The rake and the leaves are an axis power of evil in my opinion.
