Folks, Phulcrum (Tim) and I planning a trip to Los Coyotes in Warner Springs in April. It's bit closer to home than Utah, though not nearly as adventure laden I am sure, and might provide an option for those of us who can't manage a far trip due to time constraints, vehicle prep, etc...

We are meeting up Friday is 3pm at hwy 76 & I15 gas station but anyone is free to show up at LCIR anytime. I think it is about $15 / night to camp. Saturday we will be wheeling most of the day on various trails of varying degrees of difficulty. People are welcome to join us Saturday morning if its too hard to get up there on a Friday night. While much of the reservation is closed there are still many fun and scenic places to explore by vehicle. Dangerous Road is open to vehicles and definitely requires a locker and sliders to get through unassisted with intact rockers in a truck with ground clearance on par with my 60. If you want to hike or mountain bike there are trails galore. Note that there is no gas in Warner Springs.

Some of our friends from American Adventurist will likely join us. The LCIR campground is huge and it is likely hardly anyone will be there so I don't think we will have any overcrowding issues.

Kids and puppy dogs will be present and are welcome.

Tim will be bringing the mojoe griddle, and if there is interest we can do a potluck dinner saturday night. For other meals please be self sufficient.

As we were reminded on our last run to Baileys; flats Do happen. make sure you have a spare tire and the equipment necessary to use it.

It would be great to see some of the B&T crew there!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Note: There is a gas station ~9mi North of Warner Springs School on 79 in Warner Springs (Sunshine Summit), ~14mi South of Warner Springs School on 79 in Santa Ysabel.

Yep. There used to be a station right by Via San Ignacio but that closed down. The ones you mentioned are the closest if you need gas.

Thank you Frank and Tim for getting this run going. Jen and I had a great time. It was our first time up there but won't be the last. I'm looking forward to our next trip.

Here is the skinny...

Here we are leaving the house...

We got camp setup...

Here is our general area...

Garrett immediately found the #1 camping toy for little boys, a stick.

Friday night good food and beverage was had.

Some of our boys not going to sleep when they should be. Oh well it's camping.

Saturday:
Getting breakfast wrapped up at "Kid Camp" which was our corner.

All strapped in and ready to wheel. Daniel wanted to show us that he could wear his hat like his Uncle Nick!

On our way out to the trails we were treated to excellent views!

Once we got to dangerous road things got interesting and definitely more fun! This section gave us a bit of challenge.

Anne having at it.

Wayne following...

Followed by me...

Farther up the trail it got more rutted which makes it easy to lift up a wheel! Jarod and Jenn making great photo ops.

This makes driver and passengers happy (we are in the brown 60)!

After getting back to camp in the mid afternoon we had time to play and relax. Some took a nap.

Worn out kiddo...

Saturday we ate and drank very well. Matt and I jammed on our guitars around the campfire. That has to be one of my favorite things to do when camping.

Sunday:

We got a headstart on packing and then joined the group on their way up to the lookout tower to take some pictures at the top...

Altogether an amazing trip. My truck did run itself out of brake fluid but that was remedied at camp Saturday evening. There is rarely a dull moment in an old FJ60.

Tim is correct about being respectful to the reservation as well as each other. I was there back in the day to see far to many people tearing the place up, blasting music all night while drunk off their rears pissing off everyone around them, and that is the sort of thing that will get this place closed down again. I hope we as a community can act responsibly. This place is an absolute gem and I would hate to lose it again.
