Hi to everyone and thank You for accepting me into this wonderful realm. I'll start off with a question. I recently acquired a Land Cruiser 78 with 1HZ engine (4.2L). I ran a quick diagnostic scan and it came up with "Throttle position sensor" (P0220) and "Injection pump metering control" (P0251) generic codes. I wanted to start with the throttle sensor as the car has a "jumpy" throttle and I can see the sensor is damaged even by looking at it. However I can't figure out the part number for it. Small part is chipped off so I cannot get the full number...it starts with 517044... My dad and my brother both have LC75 with the same engine, but the sensor is different (a round one, I have a square one). And there's no part number in the parts catalogue. I'll attach a photo of the sensor. If You can guide me to the correct part, it will be awesome! Also...the car is for "general" market I believe. Thank You very much and have a beautiful day!

I do not think that is stock. Was a cruise control added to this vehicle by the PO? It looks to me to be something after market added on.
There's no cruise control, maybe it's different for the "general" (european?) market. Also the car was modified by the previous owner - it was a mountain rescue vehicle. Our LC75's have a similar sensor, but a round one (picture below). Also it's in the catalogue, but without a part number and it's the round one:( I'll attach the screen also... Thanks a lot!

For the jump throttle check the throttle cable on the pedal and choke button to see if it's actually adjusted properly... both fuel pump high altitude I have did not required any sensor...

Yes, it is clearly different. Which is why I thought it might be an aftermarket add on. I do not have one on my fuel pump, so I am not sure what it is for. I would hazard a guess that it is probably on there for emissions (EGR system). This was likely added on when it was imported to meet local emissions laws.
I would follow the wiring through to where its end point it is, and that might share a little more light on where this came from.

Sorry if that is not much help, but that is what I would do to start with.

No need to feel sorry. I'm thinking the same thing - it's probably there just to meet some EU laws. I even saw a kit containing the sensor and a bracket for it - that would make sense if that was the case. I was playing with the idea of deleting the EGR altogether as it's only a pain for the owner. The sensor may trigger the EGR incorrectly making the engine run weird. I'll have a better look soon and I'll post it here afterwards.

Hello,

There were some changes on 78 Series trucks. One of them was in their electronics (or lack thereof.)

75 Series Cruisers had an electromechanical instrument panel. 78 Series trucks have an electronic one. Yes, gauges are still analog.

Emissions control equipment varied from one market to another.

I think your 78 Series has a different sensor, able to communicate with the newer instrument panel.

You can try looking for Throttle Position Sensor in the parts catalog.

Thank You very much, Juan. I did search in the catalogue but they omit the PN for the TPS on purpose (attached screenshot).
