Hi guys,

My 100 feels like it's on 4LO when I put it in drive and try to take off (moves very slow but engine revs). It'll do it when cold, but then it warms up and that goes away. I've also noticed that the battery is kinda low. The reason I say this is because I sell tractors and some of the newer CAT equipment won't move if the battery is low.

What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance

Anyone else find this thread kind of ironic due to the OP's handle?

Nocrawl - can you provide any more details? I've not heard of low battery faults causing the LC/LX to operate in a "safe" mode. Have you tried actually moving the xfer case lever to see if there's any chance the gears have been stuck in the wrong manner? Don't forget to put your trans in 'N' when moving the xfer case.

check out my profile and you'll see the reason for the handle (look at my 80)

I just went out and did that. Seems to be working fine now but I'll just have to wait until it cools down again and see what happens.

Thanks,

Well keep us updated. Be careful someone isn't pulling on the xfer case lever unless it's intended. As well, the trans has to be in 'N' in order to properly move the transfer case lever.

Good luck.

After I got done messing with the Xfer Case lever, I put it back in 4 HI and started shifting from P to D and noticed that from P to D feels like the Tranny engages smoothly, but If I go from R to D, it kinda makes thumping noise. Not too loud but you can hear it. Is this normal?

Sorry about my ignorance but I rather look stupid here, than take it to a mechanic (I live in Miami) because they will find something wrong (even if it doesn't exist) and expect to get a couple grand to fix it.

This has happened to my 100 3 times. Each start after each dead battery and then never again. Ya, I backup, hit the gas, then almost nothing and then it runs fine 10-seconds later. Slap in the new battery and never again.

The clunk sound you're hearing is likely coming from the driveshaft which needs lubricated. Research driveshaft clunk or thunk or noise etc and you'll find lot's of discussion on the topic. Easy DIY fix. Also common on 80's.

Have you checked to see if the center diff is locked? The button should be below the stereo on the left side.
