Latest gen 4-runner

I'm looking for info on the latest gen 4-runner --- which model is best to build, what years came with various traction systems (locker, a-trac, etc), compatible tire sizes, available lifts, mechanical issues, etc.

Can someone point me toward a thread(s)? I haven't found one so far.

Usually yotatech or 4rnr forums have the best info/opinions/faqs. I believe the 3rd gens were the last years you could get the e-locker, '01 actually. '02s only had the center dif lock. The '99s (especially Highland version) are very sought after because they came from the factory about 1" taller than all others, and the hood scoop option appeared on sports. '00 may have been the last year for the 5spd option also, don't remember for sure. There's also different fender flares for SR5s, Limiteds, Sports... just a lot of choices. But there seems to be a good deal of aftermarket support. Good luck.

Are you talking about the 03+ 4Runners or the 96-02 4Runners?
