Picked up a pre 71 bib as I wanted the full width round indentations that had running lights so I can use them as turn signals. Pulling the old lights and buckets out tonight and looks like I'm going to have to drill out almost all of the screws in the left light and bucket. Found all the hardware I'll need on SOR (just the screws) - and I could clean the old buckets and other hardware up pretty decent - but was wondering - couldn't I just redrill the bib for the later 3 screw mounting style and run my 76 headlight assemblies?

Any thoughts on the early two piece bib hinges - do they tighten up ok and not rattle? The bib came with the upper half and it's a damn neat looking piece - just seams like there's either supposed to be a grommet of some sort, or it slides on and then is held in place by being tightened? Want to know if they work ok before trying to chase down the lower half. Anyone have one they want to part with?

To anyone interested - I picked up replacement running lights to use as turn signals, does anyone need the OEM turn signal trim rings. The lenses are pretty beat, and the signals themselves aren't much better - well except for one seal that looks pretty good. Not sure if anyone keeps this krap.

if i understand correctly.. you have a set of old and a set of new style lights? or just the old style? I had different pieces of each set and had an early bib like you... check my build thread to see what i did.. i think it'll work.

but you can't just drill 3 new holes for the newer style buckets.. you'd have to make some cuts as well into the bib which I didn't want to do

differences can be seen here https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/58984-headlight-buckets.html

pbgbottle did a clean modification seen in his build thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/187901-rotw-pbgbottle.html

Many thanks - that gives me enough of a head start on ideas on which way to go. I don't mind cutting the bib to allow for the later style buckets - but the ones I have are pretty salvageable except for the buggered screws on the drivers side...

Those new pieces are nice - the old buckets still have quite a bit of the anodized coating in places where it was covered by seals and what not - would be damn nice to have those new.
