I've done some searching on GPS antenna's, but didn't find what I was after.

I'm lookng into setting my laptop up as a GPS. Most software can come as a package with a small USB antenna. Is this type of antenna any good? Or is there a better / more rugged setup I should look for.

For the laptop GPS guys out there, what setup are you using. What should I expect to pay?

Something like this

Try finding a used Garmin GPS III Plus or V on Ebay and then buy a Garmin cable. This will allow the GPS to be used independently or with the laptop with any available software. Ozi Explorer, Faugawi and even Garmin MapSource are nice products for software. Sorry no first hand experience with the GPS Antenna types that only work with a laptop. My feeling is that a GPS with a cable hooked up to the laptop is more universla and roughly the same cost now.

The Garmin GPS 18 Receiver LapTop USB is what I was hoping to hear.

A guy I wheel with said that Garmin GPS and nRoute are the best, especially for my area. The mapping has a lot of access / logging roads listed that make excellent trails.

I found quite a few of them on Ebay. As low as $109.99. I think I'll be making a purchase. :)

This is the route I went. In new places I often run dual tracks, one on the tablet and another on the gps acting as a backup in case the tablet explodes. Often info on the GPS is plenty for me, unless I'm doing serious map work. Kind of a pita to connect up the laptop every time.
