There actually is one in Florida (I sold it to him). He said he had a way to import and register it so have at 'er.

Be very careful buying a rig less than 25 years old and trying to register it in the US. Even if you do 'slip through the cracks' and get it registered it can still lose the truck later when someone catches up to you.

You can check with the US government. It is possible to import under 25 years. If it's LHD then you can have the safety inspection done and get that year and model added to the US registry as legal vehicle. Contact the guy in FL and see of he did this correctly. A 1988 should already have the correct safety standards and emissions standards to pass. Make the sale contingent on passing the govt. You can use an escrow service to hold funds.

The big problem is when it's RHD because the steering needs to be converted by a licensed and bonded shop. There are only a few that do this and they charge a fortune. You could theoretically get a Megacruiser in to the US but it would cost a fortune for conversions.

It's a ton of extra paperwork but very do-able. Find out all the specifications and you're good to go!!!

I am not sure where you got the "1 of three in North America" there are more than that, I have a 97' and I know another person in Northern California that has a 94', that is just in Cali, I think there is aproximently a dozen or so in North America.

Nice looking.

I would love to see some pics of yours. I have seen several similar models that people often mistake for troopies but only two others identical to mine.

I bought mine and it was already in the country and I got lucky at California DMV, ok really lucky and had no issues registering in California. So I don't know what it would take to bring one in. I had mine for sale for a short while but no one was interested so I kept it and have turned it into an expedition truck that I take to Baja a lot.

Cheers,

Michael
