Wondering if anyone knows what the gross vehicle weight is of an FJ60 and what the width is?

I just purchased a landcruiser in Montana and I need to figure out how I am going to get it back to TX. I have the use of trailer however Not sure if my 2000 nissan pathfinder will pull it and second if it will fit on my trailer because of the width might exceed the rails.

I would drive it back however it has some pay in in the stearing and not sure I want to weav 1200 miles and also run the risk of breaking down in the middle of colorado and ending up like that guy who died in oregon.

Would apperciate your insights. Thanks.

i think most cruisers have some play in the steering . you be amazed how quickly you get use to it on a vacation drive or 1200 mile stint
sorry didnt answer your question tho

pathfinder will NOT pull my man.my 62 has no play at all .i would go with driving it.all i can say cruiser weighs a hell of alot more than the nissian i would guess a average 60 weighs 5700 hundred pounds give or take

I am thinking that I am going to have to rely on the toyota reliablity to get me back. So play and all will see how it goes.

Spec is 1.2" max of play in the steering wheel.

Safe figure for a 60 series with or without being built up is 6000lbs. Just about any double axle car trailer will haul it, but your Nissan won't work that distance and in inclimate weather too.

So your in Texas & none of your buddies wants to take a trip?

If it runs strong then drive it on home to Texas.

I am going to buy my ticket this weekend and make the trip. Not many people want to take some of their christmas vacation to pick up a 23 year old car! :)

So I'm going to pack my tools, say my prayers, and get the saggin wagon home where she belongs. I will post photos and a trip report once I get under way so keep an eye out. Thanks for the advice and specs.

Looks like you've made up your mind, but just my .02, I just towed a 60 from Michigan to Missouri with a montero sport, its a wuss and it made the trip, just towed it in 3rd gear. And curb weight for a 60 is 4400 lbs.

Have fun on the trip. I flew into Phoenix from Cincinnati on a Friday night and drove a 62 back that weekend. I bought the vehicle sight unseen from an original owner and had no problems except for the notorious temp/gas gage issue. Which freaked me out until I realized what was happening. It took 29 hours and was about 1650 miles...really a bear with no cruise.

GO FOR IT!!

I bought my 60 sight unseen from a friend in Seattle. I'd never even sat in one before and I'm gonna drive it from Seattle to San Diego!

Definitely a little wandery if you're used to late model car or truck but not bad.
Mine had 230,000 miles on it when I picked it up.

Drove too fast on the 1st tank of fuel and burned through it like crazy. Scared me 'cause I knew I didn't have enough cash to burn through that many tanks!

So I just backed it down a bit, stayed in the right lane and improved the fuel mileage vastly. Best was about 15+MPG consistently.

Just keep the R's under 3K(that seems to be the efficiency threshold), make sure the tires are aired up(a little hard isn't bad if you're gonna replace the tires anyway)

1300 trouble free miles and all I stopped for was Gas & Tacos.........

I drove mine back from SLC to N Idaho. No problems to speak of. I wouldn't tow it with a Nissan, but I've got a Dodge Ram CTD for that.

Where in MT did you get it? Good Luck!

I got my 60 with 196,000 on the odometer, and she wandered something feirce!
Bought her in Oregon and drove her to Los Angeles via the red wood forest (i had never been- man is that place beautiful). She still had the factory 4 speed, so I kept to the right and kept the rpm's at about 2000. got 16mpg all the way home.
The one time I did put her on a trailer, she almost killed it. WAY overloaded the trailers suspension. Owner of the trailer was just a little mad at me, but he got over it.
I would drive it.

Planning on Driving

Yep I am planning on driving so it will make for a fun adventure. I am getting more comfortable with driving. Thanks for experience!

The question was "What is he Gross Vehicle Weight?" That should be the curb weight of 4,450 mas o menos, Plus the load carrying capacity. I believe the GVW then is around 5,360. Not much of a payload but then it really is not a truck.
