Hola,

I am wondering if anyone out there has any idea of the gas mileage for a fairly stock 70 series, 2 door cruiser? Similar to the photos in the links below.

I am thinking about purchasing a mid-late 90s one from Colombia....b/w a 1993-1998.

I am wondering if anyone can give some insight into the MPG for GASOLINE engines. The most common engine that I am seeing out there are the 4,000 cc, 6 cylinder ones. I know it can't be great since they are pretty much a brick on wheels, but some appox numbers would be good. I am also thinking about putting in a natural gas tank too, so that will help some.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Gracias!

I'm curious what model they are. I didn't think the Landcruiser II (Bundera or Prado) came with the 4.0l I-6.

The FJ70 came with the 3F until maybe 92 or 93 when the 1FZ came out. Probably the H55 manual gearbox with the 3F, maybe the A440 auto.

Specifics on engine and gearbox combos will help;)

The 1st pic is probably an FJ73 with the 4000cc 3F carbed engine. you can expect 16-20 litres /100klms
The 2nd pic is a FZJ73 ,fuel consumption maybe a little better.Im not sure if this will be the fuel injected 1FZ-FE or the carbed 1FZ.
Its definately a 4500,you can see the 4.5 badge.

Gas wont help unless its much cheaper. They will use at least 10%-15% more fuel on gas.
On the 3F it will either run good on petrol or gas,but not both.

Phroggs correct,the LandcruiserII/Bundeera/Prado only had the 4 cyl 2LTE or 22R

Not to sure of the exact engine specs. I am looking at listings online on tucarro.com, a Colombian site. There are a ton of these for sale there and most of them in the "motor" description just simply say 4500 cc and 6 cilindros.
Not sure if that is enough information to figure our the approximate gas mileage.

Here is a link to a full listing so you can see it - Toyota Land Cruiser 1996 - $ 25000000.00 - TuCarro.com Colombia

I think these are technically the 73 series? However the decal on the hood says Landcruiser 45.

Thanks for your help!

If they are leaf sprung fronts ,they are 73 series but if they have a coil sprung front they are 74 series
The 45 badge is a 4.5 badge (4500cc)just like the australian models
Ive already stated the fuel consumption from personal experience,if you cant do the maths just ask

I am Colombian and i know all about the 70 series we have, use and sell here.

The models you are looking at, are:
1. Pre 1993 (likely colombian built) FJ73 meaning 3F Carb'd engine and H55 manual gearbox.
2. Post 1993 FZJ73 meaning 1fz 4.5L DOHC I6 carb'd engine. Not entirely sure about the gearbox, i think its a 151 but i dont remember off the top of my head. 5speed either way.
3. Same as 2

Like i mentioned, most of the ones we have here in Colombia were built here by SOFASA.

Fuel consumption for my ride, which is a Japanese built FJ70 with a 3F Engine and a H55 transmition is aproximately 20km/gallon on a good day. It will drop down to 15km/gal, especially if the engine or carb arent tuned right. I overhauled my engine and I am closer to 25km/gal now, although its too soon to give you an averge. its only done half a tank.

FYI
Colombian peso to US Dollar is 1780 to 1 right now so you have an idea of what the price is for one of those here in colombia. I would double check every import law to Costa Rica as i am pretty sure the Colombian built models have some differences to the Japanese ones.

Let me know if I can help you with anything.
