The previous owner painted my 40 in the original color (rustic green), but I dont know what they used. Doesnt look to have a clear coat. Anyway, I need to paint a few small parts like the spare carrier and a tailgate. Question is, which rattle can should I use, lacquer or enamel? If I do need to do touchup on a few spots, will different kinds of paint not work together?

I will get the color made at tower paint.

Enamel over lacquer is OK. Lacquer over enamel is not. I just got some enamel rattle cans from towerpaint. It sprays pretty good for a rattle can.

x2. lacquer will wrinkle enamel. being a body tech., may i suggest single stage urethane. if u're in texas, that sun will kick the crap out of either 1 of those & she'll powder up( read oxidize) in no time.

That is exactly what happened to me when I sprayed lacquer paint over enamel, it wrinkled pretty bad.
