I have a 94 kzj78 Prado with a 1kzte. Yesterday it stopped suddenly. I have tracked the problem down to the scv relay. Specifically the earth signal is not working from the SVR terminal on the ECU. What I can't figure out is whether this is because the ECU is faulty or because the SVR signal is conditional on some other condition like some weird sensor in the transmission. Don't want to waste money on a new ECU unless it's absolutely necessary. Would anyone out there know the answer.

There has been plenty of discussions on here re the 1KZTE and ECU's. Search function is your friend.
The ECU's have a habit of dying after 10 years due capacitors failing. To buy a new ECU is often difficult to near impossible. And very $$$$.
Best bet is to track down another owner and swap the ecu to see if its at fault.
Local repair agents in the US and Canada may not want to touch your ECU... We have a company down here in NZ which is great. But a long way away for you....
