Hey guys!
My truck has a slight miss through the rpm. I have replaced my injectors with the proper injectors for my truck and it isnt super smooth. There is a slight miss at all rpm. Not super bad, but noticeable. EGR and butterfly removed, new injectors, new fuel filter. I have 280k on the motor and I'm not sure when the last time the valves were checked. Not sure where to start, any suggestions greatly appreciated. Could tight valves cause a not very smooth motor?

Cheers!

Typically the ECU's capacitors start to fail after the 10 year mark. It can give all sorts of issues from engine performance to trans shifting issues for the automatic models. If you know someone who has the same truck swap ecus and do a test drive. They can be repaired .

Well mines a 95.... How does one repair? I've noticed my shifting isn't great. It seems to miss 4th on it's way to overdrive, stays high revs in 3rd then briefly blips through fourth.

Can an ecu cause rough idle? Valves?

I don't know anyone else in Alberta that has a kzj78 Prado.

Thanks!

Lomo

As kbushnz says: I also have had isues over the 17 years I have had my KZJ71 that were fixed ( cutting out when motor gets hot, rough idleing ect ) by repairing the ECU.

Cheers oldblue. Did you fix the ecu yourself? Hard to do? I'm pretty inclined and not afraid to try thingt myself... God hates a coward.

Thanks!

Lomo

I am lucky that a company in my home town does the repairs on many types of ECU's including the KZJ TE ,ECU's.
Thanks oldblue. I might see if I can find a used one here and ship it off to someone who can fix them or try it myself. Not sure anyone in Canada fixes them.

Cheers!

A few people have shipped and had repaired their ECU's at anything electronic here in New Zealand. They will do international service.
You probably won't find anyone in Canada who will touch it and nothing in the States.

I'm an Electronics Technologist by training (design and build electronics at University of Victoria for work). I preventively replaced the capacitors on my ECU. If you really can't find anyone, I could do yours for you.

However, if your rough running started when you had your injectors out/in the problem might not be the ECU. Could still be something to do with the injection system mechanics.

The alight miss has been there all along. It runs a lot smoother with new injectors, but still isn't as smooth as I would like.

Is it something I can do, replacing capacitors?

Thanks

If you don't have the right tools and some basic electronics knowledge, you risk damaging it. You also have to know how to spec new capacitors (voltage/capacitance/type/ESR, etc.) If you can afford the down time, I'll do it. PM me for the shipping address if you're interested. Parts are around $30-40 if I remember.
