Have an opportunity to acquire a KZJ77. Not too familiar with them. Does anyone have insight on common problems and issues? KZT1 3.0L Turbo Diesel motor. 5 speed and only 109,000 miles

I saw that one too, but decided it wasn't for me. My concern would be about parts availability for the KZJ in the US. Plus, I've never really loved the front end of the Prado compared to the HD 70 series.

Pretty solid from my understanding, major improvements over the old 2LT powered rigs. I've driven a couple, wasn't a big fan of the 90s plastic dash that felt grafted onto a 70 series interior inside, but one of my favorite things about 70 series is the mix of creature comforts and utilitarian. They sure do drive well and are lighter on their feet than my HZJ73 or BJ74. In the end I decided I like the rugged straightforwardness of the HD Land Cruisers and bought a BJ74, but I serious considered a KZJ77. Prados share a mix of Land Cruiser and HiLux (Pick Up) parts with a unique coil spring suspension, so they're good stuff. 1KZ was widely available, parts availability shouldn't be an issue, and I'm guessing there is a lot of crossover with US vehicles if you know the part numbers.

My 13BT powered rig has several discontinued parts, and while I've had to get a little creative here and there, even that hasn't been a major issue, still easier to find stuff than my early FJ40 I had in high school.

I daily drive mine in LA. I'll bet a KZJ77 is a blasty blast- I wouldn't be afraid of owning one, especially with lower miles like the one you are describing. Just make sure you can get kms verified and that the timing belt has been changed and some basic maintenance has been performed.

Own a 1994 KZJ71. It's been a great truck.

Parts are located on sites like partsouq.com. As stated earlier, the engine was sold all over the world. Some Australian forums have a lot of information, heck even followed simple instructions for replacing water pump. Power steering pump drips, but not enough for me to resolve at the moment.

Having a blast in what's essentially a modern 40 series. The KZJ77 with additional space can take you on a lot of fun adventures.

I've had my KZJ78 for about 8 months now and it's been a great daily driver and adventure rig. Many can be pretty hammered, depending on source country and PO, but if it's been taken care of it's mostly keeping up on maintenance and doing what mods you can to manage heat. While not quick by modern standards, it gets up to and maintains freeway speeds (up to 75 mph comfortably) easily, has gotten decent mileage once some deferred maintenance was done, and is just a fun drive. As mentioned in other responses, once you identify the part number it's pretty easy to source what you need. Just don't expect to tow a lot of weight and get used to researching various options for EGT sensors, dump pipes, intercoolers and boost controllers. :)
