it would seem to me that if you tire is fully inflated and has no give it would puncture quicker than being aired down. But that’s just me. Personally, I don’t wanna take the beating of having 30+ psi in my tires off-road with the stuff we do.
Yeah that’s definitely how it works in mountain biking with the caveat of finding the sweet spot between too soft (pinch flat, too much tire deformation) and too hard (no tire give, stiff ride)
seems like similar deal with automobile tires off-road, finding the sweet spot. Also mebbe not driving schity.

To share my experience; oddly enough I have been on Goose Lake twice now and cut into a side wall each time. There is a good chance I should blame driver error. Even with that, my sentiment is like many other, I will keep airing down for many reasons i subscribe to. I believe the first tire damage I was running maybe 22-23 psi. I can't remember for sure, as it was a few years ago now. The second tire damage, last weekend, I was running 17 psi. I actually rarely go that low, but was playing around with things (working on finding the sweet spot). In both cases, i am running 265/70R17 C-Ply KO2s, and I wasn't loosing air out of either damage. But I don't like the idea of a weakened side wall at highway speed. For those that want to read into things a little further, my rig is fairly heavy, maybe 6K+ lbs, long wheel base with a camper.

While many of this is antidotal, it is nice to hear others share their experiences.

Back to the thread title, I looked into a single KO2 replacement, too. I wanted to shout out to Discount Tire, as that is who I go thru now. I called them up Monday, and they had my tire in stock (definitely relieved). But the big kicker for me is that I now get their "warranty certificate". Its an extra $40-ish a tire. If you damage a tire for any reason (yes, no questions asked, and this is the important part to me), you get a replacement for free. You do have to consider tire tread and maintaining similar diameters to play nice for a 4x4 system. From there you can update with a new "cert". I did that again for the new tire, and for some reason it was $33 this go around. That included their install and disposal! Seems like a killer deal to me.

And yes, unfortunately, we do not have a discount tire in the Bozo area, but my wife's family lives in Helena where they have one. So it is an easy excuse to drive a little over an hour to get a new tire and see some fam!
