I'm gearing up to do the knuckle rebuild this week. I have my gasket kit and tools (brass drifts, 54mm socket, etc.) ready to go. I do notice that a PO has been in there as there is some blue permatex around my locking hubs and the cone washers. I'm not sure if they used the proper paper gaskets or just went with the goop.

I do have a question, when I rebuild things will I want to use a gasket sealant (Toyota FIPG?) lightly on the paper gaskets or just put them in dry?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think using sealer would hurt anything, but it's not necessary. Do yourself a favor (for the next time you have to do this) and install the gaskets dry.

Your first Kuckles rebuilt job ?

You will see... everything is show in the factory manual... but is not show how long it take ;)

Hope everything will be OK. :) Good luck.

It looks like the PO had a hard time getting the cone washers off the hub. It's banged up around the rim and there is a bunch of blue sealant around the cone washers. Still have some gear lube leaking out from the bad axle seal.

Should I get new cone washers for this before I rip into it? Maybe I'll be fine once the gear lube can't get into the knuckle?
