FWIW an overhand knot decreases strength by 35-40%. If there’s a knot in the line then that is where it’ll fail every time.
Also of note if you rub a sharpie all over the middle of the line as a marker your strap will also likely snap there also. There’s a lot of chemicals in a sharpie that corrode fibres.
