When I bought my 2002 cruiser I only got one key. When I went to my local toyota dealer he wanted $480 for the key with the remote and $180 for the valet key. I saw somebodys post on here about a OEM key blank on ebay and bought it... but the guy may be out of stock on them and have to refund.

My question is this.... for $500 I can get a viper car alarm with remote entry and open and start the car with my cell phone. What disadvantages to solving the key issue this way do you all see?

It might be a hassle ( and a distraction while walking to your cruiser) to use your phone to get in but it sounds slick. Does your phone use a Bluetooth link for this or do you need a cell signal? A key sounds more Low tech in a good way but it could be your back up.

I had a similar situation. My cruiser only came with valet key but since it was the original computer or first code or whatever I got the computer replaced for labor only or free I think and two non-remote masters plus my valet re-programmed for total $300-400. I already had ordered an after market alarm so I had two remote fobs and didn't need keys with built in Toyota remotes. I use valet key with aftermarket alarm fob as my daily setup. Masters, one with fob and one without, are my spares.
