Sorry for the redundant post but I am about to get 3 new keys cut and need to know if my 2001 key needs a dealer or special locksmith (laser cut?) or is it a normal cut? Thanks!

Your key is pretty old...I recently had a 2002 key copied and it didn't go well.
Took many tries before one would work, then a week later none of the keys worked.
I would suggest getting your keys cut at the dealer using the original VIN code. It only costs $11 for the cut, bring your DL and your pink for proof. At that price you might as well have all three cut there too.

FWIW, I had 2 keys cut at Lowes. 1 where they cloned the chip for $70 and another where they just cut a dummy key for maybe $5 or less. Both work perfectly.

If your keys are super worn tho you may run into issues.

My dealer just told me he does not like making keys for older models from VIN. Says the key and cylinder wear the same.
