My key starts the rig up ok, when I turn off the ignition, I could not turn it far back enough to pull the key out! It gets stuck in the key hole with accessory power on, so I need to pull the battery and it will let me pull the key out without a problem. I don't know what the problem is, I just had the dealer replace the battery, does it make any sense? Any solutions? Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I found out, I need to put the shift lever in park and then wiggle it a little bit. So the it can recognize it is indeed in park, therefore, my question is, is there a way to improve the situation?

I guess first I would make sure there wasn't some gunk blocking the shift lever from moving fully into normal position. Barring that, and I've not seen anybody write about it, but there is a park/neutral position switch on the transmission that could be failing. These is a diagnostic in the FSM found at DI-195 for my 2000 LX470. Give a look at the Land Cruiser version in the FAQ section and decide if that is something you want to handle.

In a rush one morning playing musical cars, I didn't put the LX in park, I left it in reverse (not on purpose) and shut it down. Went to move the LC, than the leaf. Now back to the LX and it wouldn't start and wouldn't release the key. I'm disconnecting the battery and fussing with it for a good 15 minutes before I realized it's not in park...

My '99 4Runner did the same thing. After cleaning up the shifter and adjusting the linkage a tad I got it working perfectly again.

I'll have to look at my LX later today to see if it is similar to my 4Runner, but with the 4Runner I removed the shifter and cleaned/degreased, then there was adjustable linkage under the truck that went from the shifter to tranny, I adjusted the rod to shorten it I believe and it fixed my problems.
