How do I get the little piece o' key outta the lock?

Please tell me there is an ingenius trick that won't involve dismantling the whole damn door.

P.S. I gotta get a spare key stash on my 80. I was stranded at the car was for almost an hour.

Depending on how far in the piece is (no detail here), you're likely going to be pulling the lock cylinder out. I've pulled a broken key out of a friend's car with tweezers, clamping on them with pliers but have no idea if this is helpful. You could also put a *small* dab of epoxy along the broken edge of the rest of the key, push it in and let it sit overnight. In the morning you might be able to gently pull it straight back out if you get even a weak bond. Obviously too much and you'll trash the lock.

I had the same thing happen to me. I pulled the panel, removed the lock cylinder, and shoved a needle into the hole in the back of the cylinder while jostling the pins inside from the keyhole side.

Okay, I could have fought it from the outside a while longer, but I really wanted to pull the door apart to check out the interior lock mechanism. No biggie. I tend to disassemble and rebuild things out of curiosity occasionally. ;)
