They'd only have reason to catch me if I was going down a long hill. But yes, I was kind of hoping the kids would have found them there. The irony is that all the time I was telling the looky loos to keep back and how sharp their hoofs are and how hard they can kick and its me that gets nailed. Where in the hell is the Karma in that?

I have an interesting option to the typical wood picnic table that is often chopped up and burned these days.
One of our plastics vendors was just in showing us his latest products, and one that caught my eye was a picture of a picnic table on his "Greenplus Lumber" brochure.

Recycled Plastic Lumber (GREENPLUS)

"Redco Greenplus lumber can last up to 30 years, and can be 60% cheaper than cedar" .

Perhaps Mr. Dillon would be interested in mentioning this is to his forestry contact?

If it is burnable then I wouldn't want it up there. Sure as hell some idiot(s) will torch it and then you have a bigger mess and potentially worse fire on your hands.

Kim and I had kicked around the idea of making cement picnic tables after we saw the usual destruction at Hale. They could either be made on site or made or purchased here and trucked in pieces for assembly there. But even then, I wouldn't give them more then a year or two (unless built very solid). Inevitabley some yahoo will try to drive up on it for a poser shot of his flex.

Of course, the other option is no picnic tables.

My first thought with plastic is 'how well do they burn'? The yahoo that burns a nice wood table wouldn't think twice about burning a plastic one.

I think concrete is the way to go.

This time around, we will install whatever we are given, IMO.

i say no table...concrete if any. perhaps a fire ring...but things like tables just tend to get trashed and not used and respected as intended. but then again...i always bring a table or 2 so i dont really care for rec site tables

The Ministry has advertised the site as having a picnic table, fire-ring and outhouse so that is what we will be doing. :)

I spoke with Steve this morning and he has arranged for the ministry to drop the outhouse, firering, picnic table and sign at the site on Friday afternoon. Are you planning on enlarging the camping area down by the water or will everything go up by the entrance where we fund the culvert in the bush?

Outhouse will go where we found the culvert, campsite proper by the lake where it seemed natural, picnic table overlooking the lake, firepit probably in the open where we hung around by the lake.

Are there any specifications/regulations as to the outhouse installation?

I have asked that specific question twice and received a no. However, if you have some time, maybe take a look and see if there are any regulations around this and we'll have something reasonable to comply to.
