I am not sure if it was on this forum or another trailer forum but I remember reading a thread that referenced a article from PS Magazine on how to build a "ridge pole" so water drains off the tarp. Can anyone direct me to that article/thread?

no idea about article, but I've used some PVC pipe (1/2" probably) to good effect. You can bend it quite a bit and make surprisingly tight arcs with it. Probably even more so if you heat it up first.

Mine were Conestoga style... :)

Rain poles and rain bows are used in all sorts of configurations with boat covers. Old school Tonneau covers use bows. At my shop we use inexpensive hardwood dowel rods from House Wife Hardware for boat covers mostly because the boat owners are tightwads, or broke. What works best for you depends on what you start with. If you have the ability to "roll" a piece of EMT into a bow and then work the ends so that they will secure to the trailer rails, that would be my first choice. With a good set of bows you can also add substantially to you your cargo space.

PVC, as e999 suggests, can be formed but it is not at all stable under load. Bad choice.

Got pictures and specs?

Or low temperature. My 74" 1.5" Sched 40 pneumatic spud cannon barrel is now only 36" long due to falling over in low 20'sF temperatures. It snapped like a pretzel and with about as much effort.

No tailgate?

Go this route with conduit.
