Hey guys, I just wanted to see if everyone made it through the storm okay, and let our friends from far away know where we stand. As many of you know, I am in New Hampshire right now. As many of the Cottonland Cruisers are out of power, I will try to fill you in on those I have spoken with. After several hours of trying, I finally managed to get through to all of my family. Most importantly, everyone is safe. Lot's of trees, tree limbs, and what not, but nothing on their houses or anything. No Power

I know Jeff and James are headed South tomorrow morning and may be gone for a few days. They will be helping in the relief effort. They are both fine as well as their families. No Power

Brian and Ash are all good. Ash said that they made out really well at their house. No trees, just small limbs. All cruisers, including mine, made it fine. No Power.

That is where I run out of current updates. My prayers are with each of you and your families.

Anybody in the North Jackson area? If I don't hear from my sister in Madison by tonight I might request a health and welfare check.

Floyd
In Colorado, but home will always be Mississippi.

I just spoke with our fearless leader, Greg. He reports that everyone is alive and well including Jes, Mac and all of their families. They are all without power, phones, and water. Also reports that Belhaven looks like a war zone. In his estimation, at least every third street is blocked by a tree. There is also a tree on his garage.

David, are you guys over Atlanta way alright?

Glad to hear that Greg, Jes and all are well. My area of the state is pretty much non existent from what I can tell.... All the footage I have seen from Gulfport is a nightmare. I live in Memphis now, fortuantely I have spoken with my folks and all of my immediate family members are safe... lots of damage... but safe. I can't get in touch with any of my friends down there and they all live closer to the shore than the folks, so I know they are going to have a rough go of it. I will be loading up the family truckster and heading down in the next couple of days to help with the cleanup.... as soon as I am sure I can get there. I will take pics of the damage and post.

Atlanta just got really wet. Glad to hear your shacks are still in place.

Has anyone heard from folks down in Gulf Port or Long Beach area? Still lots of family unaccounted for. Got a blurb at work on Keesler AFB, not doing to hot... Our best to the affected, and ready to go if called.

Greg said that 98% of jackson doesn't have power. The gas stations that are open at this point had hour or better waits. Fill up every chance you get north of jackson and fill some gas cans before you leave. If not, you may not have enough gas to get back. Good luck and God bless.

I am hoping that by friday, some normalcy will be restored to the northern part of the state. The gas situation has me seriously considering renting a 30mpg chevy malibu or something instead of taking the Cruiser down... I can't afford to get stranded down there.... and certainly can't make it from Jackson to Gulfport and back on 1 tank..... that is at least a 2 tank trip for the earth fawker 2000. I spoke to Jes last night and power is back on in Jackson where he is.

Bret, I have been talking to as many people down there as I can... I have been able to confirm that my immidiate family and a couple of friends are safe. But I have a lot of cousins, aunts, uncles, and real good friends that were in the hard hit areas that I have no clue about. It seems that a lot of people can get a line out to me, but cannot contact each other. So I have basically been operating a communications hub between my friends and family down there and their loved ones elsewhere. Most that I have talked to are in an absolute state of shock and have lost most that they own. The footage that I have seen on WLOX.com of Gulfport and Biloxi shows about 99% destruction south of the railroad tracks which run the length of the coast about a mile off the beach. This area was heavily populated coast wide, and it is gone. I spoke with a friend yesterday who lives about 5 miles or so north of the beach that rode it out. He had 8ft of water in his house at the height of the storm and lost both of his vehicles... but the good news is that he now has 3 Jet Ski's and a boat in his back yard.

No power at my house, just have a freind that never lost it. Thomas, I would rent a car if you could. And get the additional coverage! Looks like Greg's gettin a new garage out of this one. My chainsaw has never gotten such a workout. If anyone comes this way if they could bring me a 16" Sthil chain that would be great. Mine is getting kinda dull. PM me for my number if anyone is coming. Jes

Rental it is then, if you don't have a chain or still need one come thursday night, give me a call and I'll drop one off to you on Friday when I am passing through.....

Just received email from my sister in Madison. Power just came back on. Spent most of the last two days in the car for the AC. Drove to Greenville to get gas and ice today. Everything OK.

Thanks TCB, we got word through "The Hub" that one of the Grandmas ended up walking out of Long Beach after the storm, and she's OK (thank God for that 1%). I am pretty sure her house was south of the tracks. I am hoping that since she managed the other folks north of the tracks had a good shot at surviving. Too bad you can't bring a truck and a chainsaw and just goto work. I had to buy a new one after our hurricane season last year. Definitely ensure you have enough gas for a round trip.

Thanks again, thoughts and prayers for you and yours

Bret

Glad to report all OK in Madison. We got power back on today.

Amanda is having a "flare-up" with her MS and was on an IV from Friday through Monday. She had a MRI Monday morning just before the weather got really bad. She is now on oral steroids to knock out the symptoms.

Heat really makes Amanda's MS even worse, so I bought the only generator available on Tuesday. It came from Home Depot and is a Pramac S12000 with a Honda 20HP V-Twin. Yes, its 12000 watts max and cost $2,570!!!! It now has 40.9 hours on it and for sale. Damn thing weighs 280lbs before gas and battery! I could wire it in and run my whole house if I wanted to. Seriously, if anyone wants it, just let me know.

My Grandmother's house in Hattiesburg has tree damage (garage and den), but until the car-jacking at gunpoint and killing your sister over a bag of ice ends, she's staying at my folks here in Jackson. We've been trying to get her to move in with my parents (she's 86), but she's lived in that house for over 65 years and does not want to leave her home.

Hope all are well

Lash,

Good to hear from you brother. Jeff asked me if I had heard from you yesterday. Next time I speak to him I will let him and JJJ know that you are fine. They are both in Gulfport at this point. Don't know how long they will be there.

Lash,

Glad to hear you guys are ok. Were just waiting for the lights to come back on in Belhaven..... I do have power at work though.

Checking in

Just got power and internet access today, Thank God! No major problems, just branches and a few broken trees. Do have a good chainsaw if anybody is in dire need. Still dealing with downed trees here but nothing big and nothing on my house.
