Kaon Roof Shelf...

I was blown away by Kaon's service. They make it really easy to like being their customer. Their tow hooks are great too... FWIW, I liked the shelf more as just a shelf, without the panels. I had the large panels and never really needed them....ended up keeping stuff I didnt need on them before keeping them empty. Plus, with dog, it became nearly impossible to easily clean the rear windows post install. The shelf however is amazing for jackets, laptops, hats, gloves, headlamps, etc etc.

I used to do that - works well. A simple bungee between second seat door handles and you're set - for longer trips, a voile ski strap via the molle floor and reel makes it bulletproof. Dont have it on my new one so cant take photos but fwiw, I love Kaon stuff....
Thanks, sorry i dont understand the ski strap via molle floor idea.
Can you elaborate?
Much appreciated!

For sure. Putting your rod through the vertical "wall" on the shelf and resting your reel on the "floor" of the shelf is fine for a quick rip down a nice road. If I was off-roading or long distance driving, I'd use one of these: Voile Ski Strap to hold the reel tight / cut out the bounce. This anchors the reel tightly and does the same for a rod case, medical kit, etc. I find those ski straps to be the answer with most any molle offering :-) Can also magnetize a few fly boxes and stick them to the bottom of the shelf.

Are you talking about a fully rigged rod not in half yeah? If so how far down the windshield does the tip extend?
Thx again

Their site requires you to pick small or large side panels - no option for neither. Would love to buy for small items like you mention - grocery bags, camp chair, rain jackets etc.
you can buy it without the side panels, you just have to email them. They will say that it is at your own risk and send you an invoice. I inquired with them last year and they were willing to sell it to me without the side panels. Fast response time, great customer service.

Thanks for this - I assume the risk is that if overloaded it will strip the mounts in the headliner?

I deleted their email from a couple years ago, but I think this gets to the crux of it.

EDIT: I haven't weighed the stuff I've got up there, but I'd say it's close or maybe even over the 10kg limit.

I have yet to install the side panels and its been rock solid. Been running it severely overloaded for 3 years and its holding up well. One of these days i'll get around to installing them.
