Just traded my forester for LC-100 2003

I am attached to both vehicles mentioned by OP. My wife drives our 2010 Forester and last November I picked up our '04 LC. Love both vehicles! The wife, baby and I take the Forester when fuel economy matters and use the LC when the weimaraner comes along. If I could only have one, bye bye Forester.

Hello,
Congratulations. Many folks believe the 2003 is perhaps the best year in the 100 Series as it offers the 5 Speed Automatic Transmission and is still built at Araco Plant.

Really is an awesome looking truck and I hope it serves your family well. With the LC having a fantastic turning radius, I really think your wife really might be pleasantly surprised at how well it does on pavement.
Best,
Jack

Nice find but vehicles in the PNW are so over priced! I paid $21,500 for my 2006 (second owner) with 89k on the odo when I bought it down in Texas about 3 months ago. I couldn't find one under $27k up here in WA or OR. Yeah, I had to drive 2500 miles home but it was worth it. Welcome to the forum and the addiction.

Brewski - in the Northgate area. Yeah the prices for these are expensive but I know for good reason. this one is just an adolescent at 117k...
My last Toyota lasted forever and it was salvaged. ( I think it was an 86 pickup extra cab)

JungleJack - yes, I noticed most of the upgrades to bring it up to date mostly were done in 2003. and yes still built in Japan as far as I could tell. so quality still there and most of the safety upgrades and added in '03. That's why we went with this one... if you look around, the 2003 's are hard to find. in just about any city...

You bought a vehicle that was built for a 25 year service life in a 3rd world country. The engine and drive train will be good for over 500k miles with Toyota recommended service. Congrats, 75k,100k,125k,150k, etc. not much difference. The important part is good maintance and no rust. I would rather have a 2003 with 120k miles that has been serviced and not a rust belt 100series then a 2007 with 50k miles that lived its life in the rust belt. Enjoy and welcome to the madness :)

Thanks for the update on the maintenance,
the subaru was a great suv for skiing and all around... there are a lot more aftermarket setups for these though. most mod's won't happen overnight, just eventually what I'd like to do,

the tire under or in back, I just like the look in back. also under seems like I could, in the wrong incline could damage it.

the airbags just kind of freak me out because every other warning is they will likely kill you or your children if you are not in just the right spot when they go off. I'm sure it takes a good bump to get them to go off but I gotta say it made me a little uncomfortable. Just don't want to forget to turn em off if I go off road.

I would like to take off the wind pretector on the hood as I think it makes noise on the freeway. anyone have an issue with noise from those things? sounds like a leak in the windshield.

thanks everyone, appreciate the feedback!

Even disabling the airbags by pushing the button does not completely disable them... It is there for off-roading reasons, same as the 4runner. With the 4runner, once you are beyond a 40% grade (ie, vehicle almost tipping) the system automatically turns the override off, and the side airbags "may or may not" deploy based on if the same fundamentals as if they hadn't been disabled in the first place.

I used to work for Toyota, and got this information in our company training.

Now you're an expert. Lol! I find this statement humorous considering you posted this thread 4 months ago.

Well if you look at how many I've owned and how long I've been a member of this site you are right I am an expert. Threads are often started, to start a conversation to share experiences. But being a Canuck I am sure you are sensitive about the rust bucket talk since any 100 series that spent anytime in BC would be a candidate for the rust bucket designation. Sorry I hit a sensitive point for you Canucks. I suggest you buy a lot of duck tape to hold your rig together until you can buy another, that is rust free form the good old USA.

Well where I live in BC cars don't rust but I wouldn't expect you to know that since I'm sure you've never seen a thread on the subject.

Anyway I'm not sure what this has to do with rust. I was just making an observation that it's humourous to me that a guy who's owned 4 Land Cruisers and been on the site since 05 was worried about taking one on a road trip because it had over 100k on it, but now is telling people that they are the most reliable vehicle on the road and will last 500k.

Surely you see the irony in that. lol. Sorry I ruffled you're feathers. Go spend some more money. I'm sure it'll make you feel better.

To keep this somewhat on topic:

To the OP. I have a 2003 as well (with no rust) with 162k on it now. Still runs perfectly and it gets used hard frequently. SWUtah is right, with regular maintenance it should last a very long time. I'm sure your wife has nothing to worry about.

Based on your other posts I get it, you enjoy being a dick and you are good at it. Lol
