Hello, I have a 78 FJ40 but left it in Michigan in a barn for the past decade. Finally got it down to Dallas and it is super rough/rusted out/non-original - believe its a chevy 350 small block. I called Cool Cruisers of Texas b/c I thought they did restorations - they pointed me toward TLCA. Looking for someone with knowledge of these vehicles to restore, advise against restore (my thought since body is too far gone) or do some limited restoration work. Any recommendations? Thanks. Andy

Looks good in that one picture. Let's see some pics of the bad parts. There's lot's of choices of body places, mechanics, etc. that can help you out - depending on how much you want to spend.

I'm with Jason....doesn't look that bad. We meet the second Thursday of each month at Papa's BBQ on NW Hwy in Dallas. Since its still on the trailer, drag it down so we can give it a first hand once over and point you in the right direction.

Jason - attached are a few more pics. rusted thru in a few places. Hood has dent where it flipped up while driving and smashed into roof. Back doors look dented in to me.

40's Rock - are you all meeting this week, April 10? what time do you meet? Is it the Papas BBQ place off NW Hwy and 35?

(stupid new forum software...) The rust is in places that can be replaced. CCOT sells all of the body panels you need. Yes, the meeting is this week at Pappas BBQ off of NW Hwy. It's the 2nd Thursday of each month.

Meeting "officially" starts around 7:00...we congregate inside at the front near the patio...then move outside to the trucks. Land Cruisers are up front, mini trucks in back.

Thanks - I will try to make this meeting or the next. Do folks register these as antiques? I am doubtful that it could pass inspections...

yes, Antique plates are VERY reasonable in Texas...think I paid $65 / 5 years. But an out of state vehicle will have to pass a mandatory inspection first. There are some places that can "help" with this. We can discuss it at the meeting. I will be in my yellow 40Golden Rod wheels.webp
