I have been looking for a while for a early to mid 80's Toyota pickup, probably for about 3 months off and on to turn into my dd. after looking at several ragged out rust buckets locally one popped up on craigslist in Knoxville. 87 model with 22ret with only 140,000 miles. Frame is really clean and aside from a couple rust spots along the driver side bed seem so is the body, so after about a week of communicating with the seller last Sunday I rented a car and left the house a out 4:45 am and picked the truck up in knoxville and drove it back home. Really pleased with it so far, gotta do some work with the throttle positioning sensor, and get the cv's done and it should be good to go. Heres a pic of the engine, I will get a few more of the truck and post them up later.

Nice score.... almost bought one of those a few years ago... buddy was selling it but ultimately I was too tall for it as a DD.

Time to turn up the boost

I am only 6 foot tall and with the seat all the way back it fits me fine, I can only imagine how cramped it would be at your height. I thought about toying with the boost a little but from what I have read it can really put a strain on the head gasket and I am almost positive this truck still has the factory gasket and head studs so for now I'm going to keep it stock.

Yeah very interested, just shoot me a pm with a price. Here are a few more pics.

haha so much for a practical dd :D
after that head gasket and ARB she should be ready for URE :P

very cool mcfly

Sweet mini!! I've always wanted one of those 22ret trucks.

Thanks guys I'm pretty pumped about it. I didn't set out looking for a turbo, I just couldn't find one that wasn't ragged out and when I found this one and the frame was solid and the body and interior was in good shape the turbo was just a bonus, at least I hope so I have read there can be a lot of problems associated with these older turbos so fingers crossed.

Great find Stephen!!!! If you're ever curious about the engine or need to work on it, look up Jeff Moskovitz, see if any of his pages or posts are up - he knows more about that engine than anyone.

Nice score Stéphan. What's that bump the 22r up to about 450hp?

Seriously, very cool.

I can also tell you alot about that engine as i have had a few of those over the years. Good little engine, but you got to take care of it. Never cheap out on a timing chain and go OEM for that. Trust me on that. Your timing chain cover will thank you.

close....... 135HP and about 175ft/lbs

When I first started talking to the PO about buying the truck i was asking him all these questions about the turbo and he summed it up best when he said " now when you think turbo, dont think ....turbo"

That thing is clean!!!

haha at least he finally sold it to you...so when you gonna flatbed it? and gear it? and winch it? and SAS it? :D
I mean it is a farm truck right? 100 can haul the kiddo just fine .....................till you SAS it too

Great looking little truck, thats what I want to get for my son when he starts to drive. Something small, good on gas and able to toss a mower or yard stuff in the back. What kind of money did it cost you for such a clean rig?
