I've lurking around here for a couple of years as a Cruiser fan. I've never owned one until now but have coveted 80's, 60's, and 100's for different reasons. In the meantime I've been in a couple of Tacomas for the last 15 years. Now, with 2 young kids and another on the way, it was time to pull the trigger....and the 100 made the most sense. I picked up an 07 with 90k last night. I'm sad about the Tacoma (again, 15 years of my life has been in a Taco), but super excited finally joining the club and the potential fun. So......I have a ton of questions (but I'll start with just a few).

First, I want tires. I have AHC - can I still SAFELY go with 285/65/18 while keeping everthing stock?

I want to replace the center console cover thingy (plastic piece that goes around shifter) due to heavy scratching. Can I order that online or should I contact the dealer?

Last, (for now) I would like to remove the running boards. But, If I don't do sliders anytime soon, would I be sorry that I exposed panels to dirt/rocks/gunk?

I hope that's not too many questions for my introduction. Obvioulsy, there's a ton of knowledge on here. I hope that I can add something at some point.

Tons of people here do 285's with no issues of rubbing

Cdan or look online for your part

If you are going to attack rocks, I'd have peace of mind and get sliders already..lots of choices for them out there

and congrats on the new 100! pics of it would be nice!

If you want to keep your late model 100 looking good, get front mud flaps before removing the running boards. I removed my RBs right when I got my truck and I have the chips to show for it. If I were planning skids within a couple weeks of the RBs removal, I would forego said mud flaps.

From Yooper:

"The hardware that you need for this install, if you removed running boards and have never had front mud flaps:

The mud flaps themselves, part nos 76622-60060 and 76622-60070

The mud flap brackets, part nos 76641-60020 and 76642-60020

Two self tapping screws, part no 90159-60416 (you need four total, but will reuse two on the truck)

Two plastic nutserts for those two screws, I don't know the part number

Six of those bolts the same as the Aisin hub bolts, don't know the part number."

Contact info (from Corsair23):

"CDan is short for Cruiser Dan (cruiserdan) parts Shaman (per Romer) for all things Toyota.

Works at American Toyota-Scion in Albuquerque NM. You can PM him via MUD or call 505-821-7052 or 800-432-6668

He is VERY help and VERY knowledgeable and willing to help us noobs and typically has better pricing on parts than you can find elsewhere. Don't worry about not being in NM as I believe most items from CDan ship "free"."

Cdan? Sorry, I've seen that mentioned here before but I don't know what that means.

He's the best pic I've got. Maybe it will give you an idea. I'll get some tomorrow.

Nice!

If you have a pregnant wife that has to climb up into your 100 very often, I'd leave the running boards on until you have step sliders or you're about to go drive over some rocks.

She wont be psyched about high stepping her way into your truck at 8 months pregnant! Even step sliders are a good bit higher than your running boards.

Welcome Joe!

+1 on all the advice above. I removed my running boards and promptly installed the front mud flaps which I purchased from Dan at American Toyota. If you're staying at stock height for now, it won't be such a climb. Open the door for your wife and help her in (as any good father-to-be should) and she won't even notice.

^ I order front flaps and brackets from Beno when I removed my factory running boards. I didn't want to spend the cash on sliders right away but spent money on base lining fluids and other service items.

I also found a seller on eBay that offers the replacement "wood" accent pieces that matched nearly perfectly in my 12 year old 100. It matched so well that I left some of the old pieces on that look fine and have it inches from the brand new ones and 99% of people will never know. Got tired of looking the old pieces that were broken and or delaminating. Cost me maybe $130 or so shipped.

Care to share the eBay link for the wood accent pieces?

TOYOTA LAND CRUISER INTERIOR WOOD DASH TRIM KIT SET 1998 98 1999 2000 2001 2002 | eBay

I pulled the invoice and the price was $169 + shipping. A bit more than I remembered but for the near perfect match well worth it IMO.

I only replaced the pieces that looked bad.

I ordered Cherry Wood, not the Japanese Cherry.

This was for my '00. Other years may have different "wood" so double and triple check yours before ordering. The ebay seller was very accessible w/questions.

The kit include many others pieces not installed on my LC. Some I put on and others I didn't. I didn't want too much "bling".

nice rig, welcome to the club!

Welcome to the madness! You will enjoy the vehicle, especially if you enjoy getting off the asphalt and exploring the land. It is great for that and a nice ride home too!
