Glad you are feeling better Alex.

Love the truss bridge shot..... but the RR company does not and has sent a rep out there before for folks there before as a heads up.

Looks like a great time and hate I missed it. Would much rather have been there than here and glad noone got lost due to an out of scale squiggly line map :)

Then again you had a recon expert or two on board. Awaiting more pics.

Good to know. Oddly the only sign we saw was right on the truss itself. It made it seem like the only no-no was actually walking across the truss.

What a wonderful trip. I truly don't know where to begin. It was hotter than Hades although I am pretty certain Del loved it. We did the trip in reverse. It started with a stop at Hillman beer for pretzels, beer and a little grub. We took our time and day one ended up at Weavers bend in the same place we camped last year. Bugs were a little rough but walking behind campsite and crawling into the river made all that go away.

Day two sent us to Dudley falls after a little stop in Hot Springs. Dudley falls was a fantastic time as well. After some fun there we made our way back to Weavers bend for a mexican meat fest. Once again the food was amazing and the fellowship was even better.

Got up Sunday morning and leasurely made our way out past Max Patch and then exiting through hurricance creek onto 40. Del and Sean had to leave quick with led us and the Keefers to stop for dinner at Jucy Lucy in Ashville. HOLY WOW what a burger. This will fla out be on our agenga on every trip that way going forward.

As usually what amazing memories were made. Tori had a blast with Lily and Ella. Tillman and Cole had a wonderful time with Luca and Cruz (hope I spelled those right Del). Stacy and I love the time we got to spend with Brian and Heather and enjoyed spending more time getting to know Sean and Del a little better. Sadly, Alex had to leave us a little ewarly but it was still nice spending time with him as always. Small trips like this are such a good chance to get to know people better. Thanks to each of you for taking what is a wonderful trip and sending it to the next level. Hate that we missed some of the folks from last years trip but we certainly understand how life gets busy. I'll try and bring a few of the pics from FaceBook over.

Oh yes, your map made perfect sense. I'd love to go and do another recon trip when I return to the US!

We tried stopping at Paint Creek campsite, as it is the closest "civilized" campsite to Dudley Falls, also on a creek and shaded. I knew it was a popular spot, so we headed their first on Friday, but it was completely booked. Weaver's Bend was second, and we could have actually had one of the other spots, but decided last year's spot with the truss view was better.

Got tons of pictures from Heather's camera (with her new Hubble telescope lens) that will come eventually.

But, I agree. I love these trips, and how relaxed we were. Shame that Alex had to bow out early (tried to help him out with some of my medicine cabinet contents) but understand how the heat could multiply the uncomfort.

going to post a few random's and let Heather share the rest. :)

And that may have been the case as folks were taking pics on the bridge and hour later a norfolk souther rep was out inquiring around the camps. But when i was parked where you were on a separate trip i got the stink eye from the engineer and nonwave. Tech the gravel is the rr ROW

Just a heads up either way. I have no quams as i have the same pic :D

Oh I definitely appreciate the info. Last thing I want is to hear any trouble from the RR. :D

Great pics and looks like great fun!!

So Weaver's Bend shows as a camp site on Google Maps - is it just the Truss Bridge that is off limits?

@weejub the Red arrow is where we stayed. Yellow is where the railroad ppics were taken. Green is other campsites that we looked at. Honestly the one we stayed in has lots of room and a really nice access point for the river. Only downfall is limited shade. It's pretty rough at some points in the day.

Lots of locals populate the end of peninsula camps and i mean move in with tent city and pop ups in summer but cold months have been desolate. I prefer the spot marked with dropped pin, just hoping the idiots that have drug boulder barriers around camp/shore out of way dont bring down the ban there. Has great view of cross mtn across river and bridge too although the headlight sweeps camp.

Also those that go explore it is a bear sanctuary and i have seen them in camp there before.

Agreed. That spot was actually open as well. Beach area like you said is really nice but limited parking and with Del and I using RTT's it just didn't look like it would work. Sadly someone had left trash everywhere as well. just so many nice areas there. Truly a beautiful place.
