JTOutfitters is in NC, it's in Walnut Cove, NC which is north of Winston Salem. I used to buy parts from them, but the customer service turned to s***, so I don't any more.

Joe Turpin, the owner, is a good guy. I knew him before he went into business. He used to restore FJ40s and sell them, then he went into the parts business. I think his company grew faster than he expected, and he's forgotten how to treat the customers who support him.

I knew Joe from back in the day. He went to High School w/ my brother and he is a nice guy. I have gotten a lot of parts from him in the past when I would call and talk directly to Joe with of course excellent results. But, I ordered some stuff over the internet and got the run around similar to others' experience. I hate to hear it b/c I really like Joe. But, I read some of their feedback in response to negative feedback left to them on eBay, and I was disappointed to see their lack of professionalism. I doubt it came from Joe directly, but it represents their company just the same. My .02

Thanks for the fast response. I will look somwhere else to get my parts. I am in a hurry for them and Don't have time for the run around. Any place else to look. The dealer in Wilmington wants $72 for the front pads(in stock) and $102 per rotor(not in stock). I would order from Man a fre but I would like to before this Friday.

I learned the hard way not to disable your Cruiser while waiting on parts from JTO. It could take weeks to get parts promised to be there the next day.

If you want Call Fred Anderson Toyota here in Raleigh I am sure they can ship them to your local wilmington dealer and if you tell them your with Olde North State Cruisers they will give you 25% off. They usually transport parts within 24 hours if you order before 10:30, If you call Fred Anderson ask for Chris in parts.

Thanks for the contact at Fred Anderson Toyota. I ordered my rotors and pads from Chris. He gave me 25% off! That is 25% cheaper than my local dealer.

Thanks Again,

Tim

I try to stick to Toyota Parts. Yes, it makes a difference. I learned the hard way.

Thanks for asking that Rich, I've always done brake jobs on my vehicles with aftermarket parts with no problems. I'm about to do my 40 and was wondering what the deal is with making sure it's OEM for Toy's more so than other makes?

I haven't had to do my 80's brakes since I bought it, but on my previous Yoters the OEM stuff always worked best. Other pads tended to create way too much dust, calipers were sloppy, and rotors didn't last. I had steering parts that just did not have the tight fit of the stock parts. That being said, I bet quality aftermarket parts would work fine - e.g. Brembo rotors and quality pads vs the Vato Zone weekly specials. When you're building a rig like Rich's, though, this is all irrelevant. ;)

For many parts on a DD, I still go to Toyota for them. Yes I pay a premium, but in my experience these parts just last.

That's why I asked.. Especially with the brakes.. the calipers are just reman'd OEM's.. honed with new seals and a paint job.

If it makes people feel better, then by all means, pay for the Toyota stuff (And I do with u-joints.. OEM are forged, aftermarket are cast..HUGE difference!) But there's a vast difference between the cheapy aftermarket and the good.

For that matter, I'd trust Brembo to make a brake rotor more than I trust whomever Toyota contracted out to.

Joe - I was more referring to other people's vehciles I worked on, and/or my road-going rigs ;)

I hate to say it but Van York lost my buisness a few years ago. Long story short i took my truck in to have a posted service bulliten upgrade on my ECU. The guy fawked my computer up and admitted he didn't know what he was doing. Then they said they would sell me a new one for $1200!

That was just one of the instances. :ban:
