Starting a non nav conversion with primary motivation to to have a workable screen for GAIA when off road. I'm not a fan of mounts and tablets and am going after a clean, updated, factory look with the 9" Joying unit. I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has experience off grid with GAIA on the Joying android units and in particular the GPS capability and also any experience with the Carplay interface and GAIA via the android units.

Gaia works with CarPlay so if you have CarPlay on your joying unit it’ll work just fine . I’ll try to get a pic of it on my factory 460 screen through my GROM unit. It works pretty well.

Oh and just to mention the GROM is an android unit.

Great
Thanks... any issues with GPS navigation on Gaia out of cell coverage?

I haven’t taken it out of cell coverage while I’ve had Gaia installed to test that. Since you can download maps that tells me it’ll still work, however I’ll defer to someone who’s actually had it out of cell network to definitively answer that.

Here’s the pic.

I've got a Joying unit in my 470 and had out of cell coverage in NM for about a week earlier this fall. Overall it did great, although I've found I much prefer Gaia via CarPlay with everything downloaded to my phone than the native Android app on the Joying. That said, the Joying performed great with Gaia on it and the downloaded maps. My main issue that pushed me to the phone was being able to download maps while not sitting in the GX. The CarPlay interface is also a bit easier to use as well.
