my $29 dollar B&D jigsaw still works but is getting loose and sloppy. I'd ike to upgrade to something that has more features/power/smoothness/etc.

I've had the B&D for about 25 years so I can't really complain....I will use this portable (corded or cordless) jig saw predominantly to cut wood (broken hockey sticks!) and composites (broken skis)

I tried a Bosch a few years ago and was astounded at the smooth operation in comparison to my cheapo B&D....what say you folks?

The Bosch jigsaws I've used were sweet. I own a Porter-Cable, but I would buy a Bosch if I needed to replace it.

My Bosch jigsaw is over 12 years old and going strong. I highly recommend Bosch. They are worth the money.

Have the Porter Cable worm drive and love it, I have to say the bayonet blade system sucks though.

Bosch.

Owned the following over the past 15yrs.
Black & Decker (back when they actually made good tools), finally died.
Porter-Cable (allen wrench style) back up tool only.
Bosch second generation quick-release.

White Shark has the first series Bosch where the top forward portion of the handle pops up and turns to tighten the blade.

Between WS & mine the Bosch's have blasted through enough laminate/Formica counter-tops and other materials to last a life time.

That has got to be a seriously big & heavy jig saw.

Do you mean PC's 4 1/2" worm drive trim saw?
They mainly do direct drives. In fact the SawBoss 5 1/2" is one of my favorite saws.

It would be odd to have a bayonette-type blade on a circular saw. Not sure what ff347 is talking about though, never seen a worm drive jigsaw.

It took me forever to find this product description, porter-cable's website does not even reference the 548 EHD so they were no help. Although technically what I have is not a jigsaw, I think anyone would agree it is basically the same thing.

Bayonet saws -- Developed in the mid 1950s by Porter-Cable, the bayonet saw is a slightly different animal than the other jigsaws featured in this chapter. The low-profile Porter-Cable 548 saw uses a worm gear to transfer power to the blade-reciprocating mechanism. The saw's sturdy, nontilting base and large 7/16-in. blade orbit make it great for square cuts in metals, plastics, thinner woods, and laminates.

X23 for the Bosch.

I have the Bosch and love it. It is a really nice tool. I also like the support from Bosch. I purchased a refurb router from on auction and Bosch was the seller. When it arrived, the case was cracked. Bosch replaced it with a new router without any hastle. I have some Porter Cable tools and their support is below what I would expect from Harbor Freight.

I'll soon be sending a letter to the North pole and including some Bosch info.....

I'll also put in a vote for the Bosch. I have a Ryobi that's OK, but if I were doing it again, I'd get the Bosch. Very highly rated. I have a couple of other Bosch tools (5" ROS and hand planer) and I really like them.

Probably the only feature my Ryobi has that I don't think the Bosche have is a laser for helping guide on straight cuts. Not a big deal, since most of the time you're cutting curves anyway.

Bosch, Don't even look at the others if you want a great great tool.
I am a professional contractor and have tried and used many many other brands on site and the Bosch wins hands down:cool:

x2. Tough tool to beat. When you make a living with tools, the Bosch is the gold standard. That's why Cookiemonster and I have 4 Bosch rotohammers, a Bosch jackhammer, Bosch jigsaws, and a slew of other Bosch stuff.

We also buy other tools based upon specific specialties. It's hard to beat Porter Cable routers and sanders. Panasonic makes killer cordless drills. DeWalt makes nice sliding compound miter saws. Bosch just happens to make awesome jigsaws and rotohammers.

Agreed, Milwaukee make one of the best sazwall's and i really like the 18volt De-Walt drill.
Lots of manufacturers make good lines in one type of tool and not so good in others

I like the Bosch too. Excellent tool. I'm a carpenter and use one almost every day. Very smooth and precise cut.

Wow, that's a nice trade-up. :D Buy yourself the jigsaw later.
