Hello, I want to ask this of anyone in the forum that used to own a Wrangler and has converted to a FJC.

I have owned several Jeeps including a JKUR and currently a TJ.

I also owned briefly a LX450 triple locked, and that's how I got introduced to some local cruiser guys.

I have asked opinion of and have test drove both 2014 models.
I am leaning towards the FJC due to ride, quality, reliability and price.

So my question, what do you miss from your Jeep Wrangler now that you have a FJC?

Thanks

Who would admit to having owned a heep?

J/K, sorry I can't help you but couldn't resist. The ride, quality, and reliability of the FJC are all excellent but you're going to pay more for it in general. Good luck with your decision in any event.

Thanks 1911, I was expecting some fun comments ... I am asking on a FJC forum...
Price wise the FJC is much cheaper, a new 2014 JKURX is around $44,000 before dealing and the FJC is $35,000 before dealing
I have been able to get both dealers down to below invoice
So all in all the FJC is coming in around $7500 less than Jeep

Doesn't the wrangler already come with a front locker and a 4:1 transfer case? Or am I thinking of the Rubicon - I'm not up to date on the various Jeep models. Point being that you may have to spend more on aftermarket stuff for the FJC to get it up to the same spec as what you can get a jeep from the factory.

The Jeep I am looking at is the Unlimited Rubicon X which comes with steal bumpers, front and rear elockers and the 4:1 transfer case
So your point is correct that if I added those items to the FJC it would eat up the savings.
From what I can find the atrac does very well (please educate me if I am wrong) and the FJC will have the rear elocker
Steal bumpers can eat up around $3000 pretty quick

I was a fan of how the ATRAC worked on my FJC, used it primarily and it got me thru the vast majority of "tricky" situations.

I didn't chime in because so much of the comparison is dependent upon what one plans to do with either vehicle. I will share that I drove mine from NC to do Rubithon, travelled my home state of CA, hit AZ, Moab (Rim trail, Hell's Revenge, Fins, etc) and Ouray on the way back to NC. My family did a great portion of the trip including my 2 teen daughters and dog doing Rubithon on 33's (did have Lefty and front locker also), not a lot of vehicles capable and comfortable enough to do the 7500 miles.

You can't really miss with either, know the reliability of Toyota sold me...

Thanks for the input, I don't really do any hard wheeling just some club runs so in stock trim I think the FJC will work. Concerned I may miss the open top of the Jeep, but when ever I wheel the Jeep I put the top on because of dust.
I have automotive A.D.D so I am hoping the FJ can keep my interest at least for a couple years.
Going to test drive again tomorrow and pay a little more attention to the so called horrible blind spots a bit more.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

I never found issue with the blind spot using appropriately place mirrors.

I thought the same about dropping the top, yet, summer in Moab, being older and pasty, found the comfort of the FJC's air a significant benefit. Just saying...

ATRAC will serve you well for moderate to mildly-wild wheeling. Knowing how it works and how to properly use it will get you over most obstacles or up a slippery slope. I use it 90% of the time that traction aid is necessary (the other 10% is by winch or a tug). I almost never lock the rear in a tricky situation because it just doesn't seem to work on its own (without front locker). The current models will let you run ATRAC and the rear locker concurrently (my 2007 model doesn't unless you do the "hack"). I'm running 35's with 4.56 gears, otherwise stock drive train (auto-tranny).

I have to agree with you... it's nice having an enclosed cab when the dust is too much.

Thanks for the input, I test drove both again and the dealer let me take the FJC onto a off road area and I was able to try ATrac and lockers Bottom line the FJC had a much better feel on the highway, the ride and quality of it IMHO just was superior over the Wrangler It could be argued the Wrangler Rubicon could do better off-road then the FJC but the FJC will have all the capability that I will need for the trails I run So I am the proud owner of a 2014 FJC! Thanks again for all the input

They are installing the rock rails and roof rack should be able to pick it up today
As soon as I do I will put up a pic

I live in the East Valley also. I take my FJ into Camelback Toyota for service. It is worth the drive. I have not had very good luck with Power Toyota. Eric Murphy is in charge of service and takes great care of us at Camelback. He is a member of Copper State Cruisers. Enjoy your new FJ.

Hi Shawn
Yes I know Eric and he is great to work with i had a 1997 LX450 triple locked for a while and I used them for service and worked with Khristal in parts
I actually had emailed Eric last week for his opinion on the FJ and of course he got right back to me
I didn't buy from them because they didn't have the color I wanted and I got a great deal from Earnhardt in Mesa
When I do the Supercharger I will use Camelback for sure as well as any service most likely
Are you a member of Copper State Cruisers?

Hey thanks .. I had trouble between this color or army green, in the end quicksand won out for me

That's the same color as my FJ. I had a hard time finding one. Green was also my second choice. The only mods I have done are a Toytec lift, 285/75/17's and some seat covers. I also modified the spare tire cover to fit the larger tires and painted the silver cover desert tan to match the truck. To answer your question I am a member of the Copper State Cruisers. Between trying to run my business and having two kids I don't get out as much as I would like too. We need to get you out into the desert for your first desert pin striping.

Congratulations; one of my favorite colors also.
