Stumbled on this air intake kit made by a company here in Japan...doesn't look too bad if you don't plan on doing any deepwater driving. It's cleanable and re-useable and like any foam filter you just need some cleaner and some filter oil. I am probably going to order one here in the next couple weeks. Anyone else have this or hear of it before? I pasted a picture and the link to the site below.

Keep that $300 right in your wallet. That is a performance reducer on many levels... about the only nice thing is it will give a little volume to you turbo spooling.

BJ, can you go into some detail as to why it's a performance reducer? Only thing I can think of is that it will pull in hot air from the engine compartment.

Hot air is a very large one. Another is the foam filter material will load up and restriction will increase rather quickly when compared to stock. We also have no efficiency ratings for it... However, being high flow, chances are it captures less. Filters are for filtering. If they will supply some data showing how it performs on all levels, and it can be fed cold air, we'll have a discussion.

My vote, enjoy the stock air box.

I also a fan of the stock air box. The close proximity to the fan protects the filter from a lot of dirt and other particles whipped up by the fan. And the stock filter appears to have a much larger surface area.
It would take a lot of convincing for me to change filtration.
I recently changed to a washable filter on my Triumph motorcycle, I'm sure its down on power. I'm going back to the paper filter next service.

Hello,

x2.

The easiest way to kill an engine is using a filter without a box. Dirt of all sizes clogs the unprotected filter faster. Water and mud weaken the filter's fabric, making it easier to break by the right size particle being sucked with the air to the engine.

An inlet duct and air box combination keep coarse dirt away and maintain the filter element dry.

I would stay away from that filter.

I also like looking in the bug catcher to see what I have caught:grinpimp:

Thanks for the feedback. I was going to get one more so because I had never heard of anyone who had it and it seemed like something fun to mess around with. Anyways...guess I won't be making that purchase!
