Probably the last year we will spend our days here with a G&F tag... This has been the 'home away from home' and annual meet (15+ years) with my longtime friend "Petey Mesquitey" (Some of you Tucson folks might be familiar with him). Growing Native with Petey Mesquitey - KXCI Tucson 91.3 FM
He does own 2 Piggies btw.;)

Long story short, off to a new area to explore next year and add to the memory list.
Pics;

San Pedro road claimed another trailer tire. I am thankful for the seven tire plugs that sealed it till it "almost" got home.

Love the campsite. I could hang out there with ya!

Also curious: Why the change of area?

We call this "Whale's Head" The way to enter Cherry Springs.

Cherry springs peak. Used to see Bighorn sheep there, (and on Whale's head)...Did stumble on a black bear munching on juniper berries this year (wish I sclepped the camera).

Other side of these is Indian Cave Canyon. Top of Basset Peak in the background.

Spooky spot, trying to get solid footing on a 45 degree loose shale hillside, found a blue oak to brace myself on.

Lot's of CCC work in the area, dams, OLD cans, and the petroglyphs at our camp. We have always been tempted to break out a Sharpie and turn them into stick figures.:lol:

Reason for the change? Lack of game? Think I would add a spare tire carrier to your trailer. With as weather worn as that tire is I wouldn't go anywhere without at least one spare.

We used to see and fill our coolers within 3 days. I would like to talk to a G&F biologist, for the last 3 years, the population has gone to almost nothing. Yep, going to need to upgrade the BFG's all around.

What exactly claimed the tire? Rock or man-made tire killer?

Not sure, the only BFG total losses I've encountered have come from that stretch of dirt between San Manuel and the Reddington turnoff. This makes number 4.

Looks like someone was doing a paleomagnetic study there. I've spent a lot of time in that area. You should go see Soza Mesa and Hot Springs Canyon.

I know to the south that they aren't running cattle anymore so they are not maintaining the cattle ponds and the like. It could be a water thing as Hot Springs is the only thing with year round water until you get to Aravaipa Canyon.

I/we are beginning to think the population has gotten smart and vacated due to pressure. Plenty of water and feed. First, is pressure on the Game and Fish from the hunting enthusiasts about not getting drawn for a tag and adding more and more hunts and tags. The wildlife does not get a break from September to January (between Whitetail and Muley hunts in a given area these roll back to back). Second, there is the Toy Hauler group, who park their $100,000 dollar rigs at the last flat section of graded road and invade like roaches every morning at 5 am in their noisy 4wd golf carts. (Buddy of mine even witnessed two hunters dropped by helo on a ridge above them one morning). Getting to the point I'd rather camp and find a spot to do some fishing.

That explains a lot. Had a cabin sell close too mine, new owners had three or four quads and a dirt bike. Instead of heading out into the forest the kids would just run up and down street. The average turn around on a cabin is around five years. Lucky this one was no exception. New owners are very quiet and put a lot of money into improvements. Hopefully the will stay longer. Biggest problem now is some old man who plays his stereo in the garage too loud.:rolleyes:
